It is when the adrenal glands make too much cortisone.

I had a foster dog a few years back with Cushings. He had a few other problems and did not live long.

He was not an "older" dog either!!!

I have heard of Cushing's disease before, but I do not know what it is. Going by the scientific name "hyperadrenocorticism" my best guess would be:

Hyper: Over producing/fast.
Adreno: Having to do with the adrenaline glands.
Corticism: Related to cortisol?

So I'm thinking it would have something to do with a dog making too much cortisol from having an overactive adrenal gland. Or something like that?

A chronic excess of blood cortisol, most often caused by a tiny pituitary tumor.
