Do you find it to be a hassle? Are the rules in your region very restrictive? Are transit employees very arbitrary in enforcing - or making up :-( - rules?

I live in a major city where we are *constantly* being encouraged to use public transit. Yet, the rules (and the application of those rules) makes the use of public transit a risky option for dog owners.

Thankfully, I never have. And I cannot imagine the welcome me and my Newf would get if we tried!!!!!!!!
However, the shelter I work at is on the bus line, and many people take animals on the bus to and from the shelter. Many have said it is not a hassle and they are very good about it.

When I had to take transit, yes, I did bring my dog with me. No, it wasn't much of a hassle for me, but the rules regarding pets on the public transit in Calgary aren't too bad. If the pet is small enough to be carried on your lap, then that's where they should be. If not, sitting on the floor beside you. Kennels are recommended, but not required.
Service dogs were always allowed aboard with no restrictions.

In my region pets (other than service animals) can ride public transit only if they are small enough to be carried by their owner in a secure cage. At the vet where I used to work we had many clients with cats/small dogs who would use the bus to bring them in, and most didn't have a problem. People with big dogs and no car had a hard time transporting them, as most cabs didn't want to take them either.

I've seen many in carrier even a few brought my hand (which is against the rules)
I could take the bus with my dog in a carrier sometimes straight to the the vet's but I know she would go crazy barking in the carrier until she was let out.
So no I don't.

We've just about given up on places to take our small puppy. Seems places are getting stricter every day. When we do take him we have no trouble getting him into pet stores like Just For Pets,, Parks, as long as he is on a leash. If we get hungry, He can not go into any restaurant, leash or not so when we do take him we go to a drive in like SONIC. They have the hottest food in Tulsa, & Tobby surley likes their chicken planks. If your going to take your pet out for a spin, plan on doing it for them, plan ahead & never say, Well, if we hadn't brought him, we could go there, please dont do this cause they understand more than you think they do. They sense it. Hope this helps.

No, it is not allowed in my country. I don't think it would be a huge problem, my dogs are quite calm, except that one of them loves to sing in the car, and beagles can sing long and loud. We usually walk everywhere or my parents take us in the car.
