problem with ticks and mites
i have 2 toydogs pekingese and shihtzu both pampered pet inside the house, they are never exposed outside not have exposed themselves to any dogs. but they have ticks and mites (no fleas), then because they are inside the house i need to control the said infestation, i tried buying bayer shampoo bay-o-pet and used it, then i also used petgard anti tick and flea shampoo, i also used bayer bay-o-pet spray, i also bought dog anti flea powder then i have the hair cut very short and for some visible parasites i remove them by hand and kill them, yet they are still there, i shampoo them mybe twice a week yet even as i shampoo them they dont die nor lessened, or if ever they lessened in several days they are again infested again, with big adult mites and ticks, there are days that they lessened but where do they come from , how can i control this infestation, i think the dog shampoos are not effective, please advice.

Our boxer is in heat. We bred her with a beautiful male boxer this weekend. As far as we know they locked up three times. I noticed before we bred her that she was not bleeding but her genatila was swollen about 3 times its normal size. The male dog stayed for two days and we know for sure they locked up three times. The male boxer left Sunday afternoon and on Monday I noticed that our female was bleeding a little. Does this mean that we need to breed her again before she goes out of heat? My real question is " Will my female boxer let the male breed her before she was ovulating? I thought that if she wasn't ready to recieve, she wouldn't let him do anything. However she was all for it! LOL From what I have understood in the past untill the female is ready to get pregant (usually the second week of heat) she will not let the male breed her. Do I have anything to worry about when it comes to the pregancy not taking?

My fiance and I recently adopted a pup from a kill shelter in Alabama. They told us he's a boxer/lab mix, but I wanted to know if any one else had any ideas.

I have two Border Terrier Bitches aged 3 years old. They have for the past twelve months been fed once a day on bakers complete. Prior to that, I used tinned food but found that their poo's were getting quite 'sloppy'

My problem now is that one dog in particular will have lots of small poo's a day. It can be at least five times a day. I thought that Border Terriers should only poo once or twice a day. Should I be considering a change in food?

They have constant access to water which is changed at least twice a day.

They also used to have recurrant anal gland problems before I changed them from tinned food so I would prefer not to go back to tinned food.

I am moving into a new apartment, my dog has died (cancer) and I am lonely.
I need something smallish, under 30 pounds. I have no kids and no other pets. Either me or my boyfriend will be home pretty much all the time, and we prefer a more affectionate sort of dog who doesn't shed much. As far as exercise, we are prepared to do two walks a day (morning and night) plus normal outside play, but not honestly wanting a dog that needs constant running (huskies!!)
We want to make the right decision both for us and the dog, so we've been debating what kind is right for us for months. Help!
This may seem a demanding list, but too many dogs end up in the shelter because people thought they looked cute, without thinking of whether the dog's personality fit in with their owner's lifestyle.

Everytime i play fecth with him , he refuses to give up the ball . I would like to know some recommendations on doggy treats , i have gone to Petsmart and spent quite a bit on some brands that he has no interest in them . Ok revision of my last question:
2 months ago I moved in with my uncle as he works out of state and asked me to it is a win win situation as I am a single mom and a full time student and he needs someone to care for his house, bills etc.
He has a german sherpard that he bought as a puppy and put in the backyard and left there.
Since moving in I have trained him to walk on a leash he walks with me to get my daughter and to play at the park. Also he comes inside with me all day instead of being outside which I think my uncle is an as* for just dropping the dog out the door and forgetting about him!!!
I have never had dogs so do not know how to train them, how do I get him to stop barking? He barks on our walks, in the house, if the toilet flushes, kid sneezes etc. I do NOT smack him I should smack my uncle so what do I do to make him stop barking?

I discovered a while ago that to make cheesy love songs more endurable when they were overplayed was to make them between my parents' dog and her beloved squeaky toy.

But I still cry when I hear Del Shannon's "Runaway," because the dog I had for 10 years (from when I was 6 to when I was 16) is my little runaway.

Here's some of the lyrics - I guess I'm just missing her a little bit today:

"And as I still walk on I think of the things we've done together
While our hearts were young.
I'm walking in the rain
Tears are falling and I feel the pain
Wishing you were here by me to end this misery

And I wonder why she ran away
And I wonder where she will stay - my little runaway."

Feel free to share.

He throws up the food every once in a while but not often. It's Pedrigree but I was unsure if feeding my dog the same type of food for so long is bad for his stomach in any way or if he is just tired of it. Should I switch brands or different flavors for him?

I have a puppy who is a little over three months old i have had him for over a month now nad i have tried and tried everyday to teach him not to go in the house but to go outside. My other dog was so good she was housebroken in less than a week but my new puppy has not even started to learn. He still just runs off and pees wherever he feels like. He has not begun to come tell me or to hold it. the only time he seems to hold it is in the crate at night now he has finally learned that. Its been over a month and a half does anyone have any suggestions i love my puppy to death but he is just learning so much slower than my other dog any ideas? anything would be appreciated thank you

My Niece says she would like a dog. Yes this is a question "do you think she is capable enough" LoL. She is 12 and she stays home because she does home-schooling on the computer (dont ask) so she is there 24/7 for the dog. I think she is responsible enough but she will always have extra help from family and the dog is going to be all the family's responsibility. What are your comments on this? She likes small-medium dogs.

Ive been working with my dog trying to make her do simple tricks. sometimes she does it sometimes she wont. My question is: If she doesent do the trick in a certain amount of time should she get the treat anyway? My instinct says no, however, it seeems kinda mean chanting a command for a long period of time and not rewarding. She sometimes seems to get bored with me. I try to jump around and keep her excited to no avail. She just looks at me and yawns. lol. Im working with a 4 month old boxer female.

thanks,

LJ

My boyfriend and I have been putting some peanut butter in his mouth to keep him occupied and not cry so much when we leave. He has been pooping diarrhea sometimes and we don't know if it's b/c of the peanut butter. Also, what other treats do you give your pets when you leave that keeps them busy for a bit? Thanks!
