Say the command "one" time only... dogs can count
If she will not do the trick.. show her what you want.. once done = even with showing or directing how.. give the treat.
Treats are like money
Never "pay" the dog for not working.
Glad to hear you are giving your dog a few jobs to do.. (smiles)

4 months is still quite immature. I would break your training up into short little sessions, I know my dog gets bored easily and will look at me like "why do I have to sit again? I already showed you 3 times how its done" You should try not to repeat the command over and over and over again, as the dog will eventually totally ignore you the first 3 or 4 times you tell her to do something. You can also use everyday stuff to practice- give her a command before she gets her food, sit and wait at the door for you to go in or out first, we practice sit/stays when playing fetch. Many trainers recommend using the treats until the dog is reliably performing the task on command, then sometimes treating, sometimes not. But I would not reward her for not doing whatever it is, because you are teaching her that there is a payoff to ignoring you.

Work in small 1/2 an hour sessions or less. She's bored and you might be confusing her.
I wouldn't reward her with treats unless she actually performs the trick.
But, I would also not train her for long periods of time either.

I don't think treats are necessary every time - as you want the dog to understand that its not just about treats - its about being obedient.
4 months is pretty young - its not unusual for a dog of that age to get bored quickly. Keep your training time under 10 - 15 minutes, but maybe do it 2-3 times a day, rather than one longer session.
Maybe this will help with her attention.

Sounds like you're working with a UAW employee --- especially the part with looking bored and yawning alot. Try offering the little hairball a day off with pay and promise him job security for the rest of his life. She should follow you around after that (again, just like the UAW)

at four months old you will be lucky if you get anything out of her as she is stil a very young pup but try simple stuff not too much at one time, and do not treat if your dog does not do as you want her to do. I have an 8 month old German Shepherd and he doesnt do everything I ask him to do yet but he is learning everyday. Good luckxx

You can always go to a dog training class most local pet stores have them and sometimes they are free. Usually they have someone that has good advice and it could be fun to go to.

First of all, when you command her to do something, you have to say it only once. If you want her to sit, don't say "sit, sit, sit..." until she does it... just once! If she doesn't do it, no treat! And never give her a treat when she doesnt do what you ask, or else she will not do anything you ask her to!
