I asked the question can you trust a dog that is previously mild mannered that suddenly lunges at your son while growling? I left out some details that seemed to have been important. The dog is 6 yrs old. No she did not have sores on her (I know because I bathed her thouroghly, and no my son did not pull her skin. When he reached over her he placed his hands under her to lift her. He (my son) is very gentle and loving with animals. My concern is that dogs do turn and her being a lab she is a large dog who if wanted to could easily kill my son or me for that matter. Okay maybe with her age she is a little geriatric, but I do not allow my son to hurt or aggrivate her. He gets repremanded when he does (which is rare) but so does my dog if she responds in a bad way. I try very hard to make sure that he respects the dog but she needs to know her bounderies too. I love my dog but shouldn't my sons safety come above all else including my dogs ill behavior for whatever reason?

I have two kids age 2 and 4, and my 4 year old keeps asking for a dog. I have always grew up with a family dog and so has my husband but he refuses to let us have a dog as he's allergic and will not take pills for it. I really want to talk him round - does anyone know where I can get a type of dog that wouldn't irritate him?

My vet said my 10 month old Bichon and at the time my 2 month puppy, were the right weight, but suggested I stop free feeding or they will get fat. I think that feeding them at one time or twice will make them fight for food and be gluttons when the food is offered for a short time. I disagree with the vet. Am I wrong?

My dog started carrying around this black rat squeak toy yesterday. She won't stop whining about it. She follows me everywhere and doesn't seem to want to do anything else. She only goes outside when I do and I have yet to see her eat. If I take the toy she just wants it back, if I squeak it it's the same thing. My mom and sister have been gone on a vacation for about a week now. I've also been gone for a week, I got back yesterday night. My dad has been here, but he's been working. I think maybe she's lonely? Or just wants to play? I have yet to get anywhere with her. Any advice?

I have a mixed dog. She is good size. We recently noticed a dry patch on her back and when ever you rub or pat her there her hind leg goes wild., thumping the ground. Can I use dandruff shampoo? Or do you have another suggestion?

I have a five month old puppy who currently has medium length hair. She is supposedly a labrador/terrier mix, however according to our vet she has a lot of setter in her and I was recently told by someone who had a setter that her hair is very similar to that dog's hair. In any case, the brush we were using when she was much smaller and had much shorter hair is no longer working well enough. Any suggestions?

My regular vet isn't open on Sunday. But yesterday my mother stepped on my dogs leg in the middle of the night by accident and this morning he was limping. He doesn't seem to be in any pain but he won't put his leg down at all. It's his hind leg and he's just using 3 when walking . Should I wait to take him to my regular vet or should i take him to someone who's open today.

What does it mean when a breeder says...

"The beagle is an 11 inch"

"Or it will grow to be about a 12" dog."

"A true mini-____ is under 13 inches"

Where is this measurement being taken? End to end? Floor to back?

The adoption centers today often require adopters allow a home inspection and pass on everything a-z. Not to mention pre-adoption forms, normal adoption forms and even post adoption forms. I understand they want a good home for the dogs, but they offer nothing to help you make sure it will work. We want to adopt from a shelter that doesn't offer a in home period where the animals can live with you nor do they offer a backout or return period if it doesn't work out. Where will this crazy crap end? When they get a sample from you?

I'm getting my female Chihuahua sometime this month and I'm stumped on a name. I currently have a 110 pound male Labrador named Thor and I want my Chihuahua's name to be just as special. I would like her name to be something unusual and different. I already have a few names in mind but if you have any ideas that would be great.

Hubby and I live in an apartment condo. which means no grass. Loads of walkways and areas in immediate area outside of building. We are gone to work from 7-6. Is that too much pressure to put on a dog? No children. We are quiet people. We are both loving, responsible and financially able to have a pet. Now might be the time. I'm concerned about housetraining and leaving the pet alone that long

People say puppy dry food should not be fed to giant breed puppies. But others say it's ok. I'm confused.

Is this just a matter of opinion?

One breeder refuses to feed puppy food to her giant breed puppies because she thinks that feeding puppy food takes off a year of their life so you must feed dog food to puppies no matter how young it is.

Well the dog food seller said she's wrong and the puppies aren't getting the nutrients.

So who's right here? Or is it just a matter of opinion?

what else can I provide him with (indoors) to satisfy his need to dig and bury? Sometimes he hides it under the couch, but I don't think he's happy with that because usually he walks around with the bone, crying and whining, and only puts it under the couch as a last resort! Please share any ideas that you may have that will simulate his natural need for this type of activity. Thanks in advance!
