My dog started carrying around this black rat squeak toy yesterday. She won't stop whining about it. She follows me everywhere and doesn't seem to want to do anything else. She only goes outside when I do and I have yet to see her eat. If I take the toy she just wants it back, if I squeak it it's the same thing. My mom and sister have been gone on a vacation for about a week now. I've also been gone for a week, I got back yesterday night. My dad has been here, but he's been working. I think maybe she's lonely? Or just wants to play? I have yet to get anywhere with her. Any advice?

I'd say she suffering from a bit of anxiety. Has your family ever done such a mass group leaving before? I'd guess probably not. Dogs are pack animals and probably freaked out when she woke up one morning and over half her family was suddenly missing. She's probably clinging to the squeak toy because it retains the scent of one of your family members.

I'd take some time to spend specially with her. Take a day and cuddle with her on the couch, play with her outside, go for long quiet walks. Reassure her that you're home now. It will also help when the rest of the family comes home. If she doesn't respond after that I'd take her to vet cause there might be something else going on.

The dog is trying to dominate you by demanding you to do something with her. Do not react. Rather take the toy away, and give her something else. Take her for a walk to distract her. Play a game of fetch, and end the game by keeping the ball yourself. This shows the dog that you are the boss, and that you will decide what is to be done and when, and not the dog. The dog is probably insecure because the family is not together. But just distract her by giving her things to do all the time, but not this rat toy.

He wants to find a safe place to bury the bone so nothing/no one else can take it. My dog used to do this. She still sometimes wants us to hold her bone/treat/whatever it is so she can chew it. I agree it is very cute. Maybe get him some blankets in a corner so he could bury them in there.
