There is a reason you are overlooked. It is cruel and inhumane to keep a mid to large breed looked in an apartment or patio for most of the day. Be responsible. If you want a large dog then rent a house with on of those um...... what are they called.......oh yeah big yards!!! If you want to live in an apartment then a small breed dog is what you can humanly keep. Please have more consideration before you do this.
So many puppies are so cute when they are small, but when they turn into the large animals they are are abandoned and euthanized ONLY because the owner didn't consider the dogs needs. Like room to run and holes to dig.
I will stop ranting before I start cussing

they wont give you a larger breed dog if you live in an apt. all dogs need room to run, big dogs need more space. And you might need a letter from your apt office stating that they allow pets.
rethink the type of dog you want. some small dogs have big dog attitudes in smaller bodies!
I have always had big dogs, but just got my 1st small dog 2 yrs ago. at 13 pounds, he thinks hes 113 pounds! I still get to walk him, play fetch and he loves to rough house too.. I just have to be carefull with him not to get as rough as I would with a bigger dog. (hes a pekingese, they have thier own set of issues and take an experienced dog owner)

Check the classified ads in your area. Someone is always wanting to get rid of a dog around here. I'm sure it's the same everywhere.... worth a try at least!

get a friend who lives in a house to get it for you from the spca, just in their name. just make sure you can have a dog in your apt or if you need premission or to pay a pet fee...

go to an animal shelter. they are usually under $100 and you would also save a life because if they don't give them away they put them "to sleep".
