Then tell the vet the meds have not helped - they need to know this so they can help you!

I wish more people would understand that if you get medication from a vet and it doesn't seem to work, this does NOT mean that's the end of what the vet can do for you. For one thing, there are many possible causes of coughing.

If your vet doesn't hear from you, he'll assume is all well. Go back there, or at least pick up the phone. But seriously, if the initial course of medicine prescribed by a vet doesn't seem to have worked, do you think you'll fare better on Yahoo Answers?!?

When I brought home my english bulldog, she had a cough along with that a runny nose. it started out as kennel cough and the anitbiotics she was taking wasn't strong enough. It turned into pnuemonia. The vet gave me Baytril, it took about 2 months before she was better, but she is doing great now.

Your question is really vague. Have you taken him to the vet or are you home medicating? If you have gone to the vet, what was the diagnosis?

It could be anything from kennel cough to a collapsing trachea.....and many things in between

talk to your VET.

The dog may need a longer course on medication
or
a different medicine

Take your dog to the vet to have it checked for heartworms. I pray that is not the case, but that is one of the first symptoms.
