Tapeworms are caused from fleas.. with the puppies being so young you must be careful of treatment as it can cause harm to the dogs. Tapeworms have to be treated in a series If I am remembering correctly a dose today then in three weeks and you must be on time with the treatment. You should just take the dog to the vet's office for the first visit. Once you have gotten rid of the parasite problem the tapeworm problem will get cleared up.. it is very importmnat that you take caution in this problem as tapeworms can be transmitted to humans especially young children.

If you had brought a stool sample to the vet and they tested it and found your puppies to have tapeworms or round worms, they would have given you the proper medication to get rid of the parasites.

If these were homeless puppies, then they would need to have their stool check by a veterinarian to find out exactly what parasite they have. This way, they can be medicated properly with the correct medication.

Just because you don't see any of the roundworms doesn't mean the eggs aren't there. The eggs can only be seen under a microscope by the tech after the fecal floatation test.

You should know exactly what parasites you are dealing with, especially with rounds since children are very susceptible to having rounds transmitted to them.

I purchased worm remover from walmart. I gave my dog the recomended does but it only got rid of some of them. I think the medicine the vet gives is stronger so I doubled up the does and my dog got rid of the worms once and for all. The key is to make sure any worms expelled are removed at once. We took lighter fluid and burned the grass around them to be sure she or other dogs were not infected by them

First I had to find find the dosage and if it's ok to use that young.

From jefferspet.com

"For the removal of common tapeworms in dogs & puppies over 4 weeks of age. Give oral or crumble and mix with food as needed.
DOSAGE-DOGS:
less than 5 lbs- 1/2 tab
6 to 10 lbs- 1 tab"

If it really concerns you, you can find another vet to get tapeworm wormer from. Or you can wait until the vet returns.

I don't recommend buying an over the counter product to try and treat these. 1) they are very ineffective at best 2) your normal everyday wormers don't kill tapes anyway, they have specific wormer just for them.

It'll be ok.

All I can suggest is to talk to your vet ASAP; but after you get rid of them, there is medicine you can give the dog monthly to prevent them from coming back. Also, (If you live in the country) Don't let them eat animals they caught when hunting. That is one way that these worms spread from animal to animal.

Every vet I know has a person to cover for them. Call your vets number and get in touch with them and get the pups some meds.
