I just adopted a 1 year old hound and I am uncertain how to get her to do these things. She was rescued off the highway by someone else, and it is suspected she was mistreated. She is very nervous, and only likes to lay on the couch. She likes having me around and loves to be petted, but not much else. I take her outside on a leash to see if she will use the bathroom, and she won't. As soon as we come back inside she squats to go to the bathroom. She also has eaten very little and is not drinking water. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I want to neuter him because 1. I don't plan to breed him and 2. I don't want him to start lifting his leg to pee. But since I wanted him to go through obedience and maybe protection training, I was wondering if her would not be as good in protection. I don't want him aggressive but I don't want him to be a punk, either. Lol. I just want him to be able to properly protect if NEEDED.

Why is it that people act so worried about their pets, and they think that the pet is very sick. But, they get on the internet and ask questions acting real worried. Wouldn't you think that you would have your *** in the car with the pet on your way to the vet, instead of getting on the computer and acting worried??? Has anyone ever heard of a vet?

My 2 month old Golden retriever is good as gold with me, but when my 13 year old son walks in the door all she wants to do is bite him. We tested it last night, I held her, real calm, he picked her up and the biting began. Back to me, good as gold.

Help!

With the fire works over, just wondering who out there has brand new stories of doggy destruction caused by the stress of the fireworks.

I'm house sitting for my boss and walked in the door after the fireworks last night to find my dog and torn down and shredded 3 (THREE!) sets of wooden blinds. Arrrgggghhh! Seriously, it looked as though they were sent through the wood chipper. Hes not at all a destructive dog either, I can count on 1 hand the number of things he's chewed up in his life. But he was in a strange house, alone, and got scared. I know its not his fault, but it still sucks!

Anyone else want to share their misery?

I have a puppy and I don't mind him sleeping in the bed with me. He sleeps at the foot, does not get in the way, does not pee/poop in the bed, and is clean. However, my b/f can not stand a "dog" being in the bed. But I think of my dog as my baby, so if he wants to sleep with me, I want him to be near me.
Do you let your dog sleep in the bed? Does your partner mind?

I have a 2 year old pitbull who I have had since she was 6 weeks old.
She's a very smart dog, and is potty trained to go outside.
However, 2 times in the last week, she has peed in my bed.
It's been suggested to me that maybe she has a UTI.
Well, I find that hard to believe b/c she completly is going out of her way specifically to urinate there.
I know the answer to my question.
Which, is I broght home a baby kitten last week.
Apparently she's trying to claim her dominance in the household.
The thing I don't understad, is my dog seems to really enjoy the company of this new cat. She licks her, follower her around the house, the play together...
When my dog has been scolded, she immediatly runs to the kitten, hovering over her, as if she's maternally trying to protect her.
If that's so. Then why is my dog peeing on the bed?
And more importantly, how I do I break this behavior?
At this point, I'm so frustrated with her, I just want to leave her outside.
But if I do that, she will just be more upset and continue peeing when I do let her back in.
Please, someone have some good advice for me!?!?

I got bit in the face by a dog, it wasn't that deep, but there are marks and it's kind of close to my eye, my eye is swelling and red and hot...does this mean I have an infection? Also, if the dogs got a rabies shot in 2006, is it still good for this year??? Do I have to worry about rabies too?
