Females usually go really skinny after birth The worms would have just made it worse. Just make sure she is on a really good food and has as much as she wants. I have a tiny female rescue that had pups almost 3 weeks ago. She seems to be forever eating, but she's still pretty thin. She is only part nursing one of her 2 pups too. (I have to tube feed the other as she is too frail to nurse)

I'm sure she's probably not letting the pups nurse much now but 13 is a huge litter for any dog. I'm sure it really took it out of her. Just give her time and high quality food. She will soon bounce back.

If she eats like crazy then keep on giving food to her. Let her eat all the *dog* food she wants, until she looks to normal size. Also, take her to the vet, if you don't already, and get her checked. Worms usually make their belly's really big. They don't usually get skinny. It could be because she had worms and then she had 13 puppies. The puppies took a lot of her energy. Since it was 9 weeks ago, you should just keep feeding her and take her to the vet.

Wow! 19 puppies. OK that's a large litter for any breed - not only that but she has been nursing all those puppies - and should continue to do so until they're at least 10 - 12 weeks - the longer the better. The puppies will get their needs met first - at the mother's expense.

So feed her a pregnant dog formula - ask your vet about that - and maybe boost it to at least 3 times per day - and see about raising the food bowl so she doesn't gulp a lot of air (leads to bloat). Give her plenty of water.

When the puppies are weaned - spay her, Please!

Having worms and being pregnant are both very taxing on a dog's energy reserves. Your dog isn't going to gain back the weight overnight. As long as she is eating and drinking plenty of water, just keep an eye on her. If she is still eating voraciously but doesn't start to improve in a few weeks, take her back to be tested for worms again, or any other possible condition that might be causing her to be so skinny.

Let her eat, pregnancy and parasite infection combined can starve a mother to death, she is actually fairly lucky to be alive with humans to intervene for her, she probably would have died otherwise.

If she fails to gain weight in the next few months, blood work and fecal examinations would be advisable. Sometimes severe undernourishment or sapping of the food supply for the body can permanently change or damage the metabolism.

She might just have to have some time to get back to normal...puppies take alot of nutrients from the momma...and if shes eating good she will put the weight back on soon..but if it really worries you have your vet take a look at her...

How do you know you used the correct wormer for what she had? Nursing 13 pups will take a lot of weight off of her....are you feeding her extra calories?
