I am thinking about rescueing a Yorkshire Terrier who is 6 months old. Is he still considered a puppy at this age?

Dogs are "puppies" until they are one year old and depending on the bread they can still grow until they are one year.

A Yorkshire is a great dog. I am wondering how big he is.

I got one and to my surprise some breeders are now breading them bigger. as they have less health problems.

my guy is 16 lbs and he is not over weight

You will find that a Yorkie is a very hyper dog and will act like a puppy for the first 3 to 5 years and then he will settle down.

you will have to get his hair cut as it never stops growing

They are very loving and love to sit on your lap for hours mine follows me where ever I go.

They tend to have a good temperament and are good around kids.

yes he is still a puppy. Dogs take about 2 years to become adults.Your smaller breeds seem to take less time but about 1 yr of age to 18 months they will reach there full height. during that time they start to mature and are able to reproduce between 18 months to 2 yrs they fill out in weight and personality.I have Great Danes they do take the full 2 years to reach full growth and development. Yorke's are a small breed and should not weigh more than 10 pounds at full growth.

Hi You may not get a puppy for free as most decent breeders pay a fortune to breed their dogs, the best chance you will have is rescue centres and rehoming centres, or the simple dog pound! You can actually contact most and ask to be called when a specific breed comes in, however again its unlikely to be a puppy, more an adolesent or a adult dog. Have you considered another breed? Maybe a cross yorkie? Take your mum with you to the local rehoming centre in your area and get her to have a look around, your both obviously dog lovers and Imsure you will find the right one! We went looking for a rottweiller to be with our other rotty and came out with a puppy chiuahah! (cant spell but u know which one i mean!) lol! She's brilliant and they both get on perfectly....

They are still considered puppies, until they become fully develped, at about 2 years old.

yes he is still a puppy. At six - eight months, they start to lose their baby teeth and they are still growing.
