I have a 2 year old pitbull who I have had since she was 6 weeks old.
She's a very smart dog, and is potty trained to go outside.
However, 2 times in the last week, she has peed in my bed.
It's been suggested to me that maybe she has a UTI.
Well, I find that hard to believe b/c she completly is going out of her way specifically to urinate there.
I know the answer to my question.
Which, is I broght home a baby kitten last week.
Apparently she's trying to claim her dominance in the household.
The thing I don't understad, is my dog seems to really enjoy the company of this new cat. She licks her, follower her around the house, the play together...
When my dog has been scolded, she immediatly runs to the kitten, hovering over her, as if she's maternally trying to protect her.
If that's so. Then why is my dog peeing on the bed?
And more importantly, how I do I break this behavior?
At this point, I'm so frustrated with her, I just want to leave her outside.
But if I do that, she will just be more upset and continue peeing when I do let her back in.
Please, someone have some good advice for me!?!?

Hummm...... She might have a UTI you should take her to the vet just to make sure. If that turns out to not be the problem them you need to keep her out of that room for a while and redirect her outside when she is acting unusual

I cannot believe that people are advising you not to worry 'because Pit bulls are lovely puppies that don't bit babies! Its all a lie!' Honestly 'Pit Bull Soapbox Advocates', get some perspective! These particular fluffy sweet Pit Bulls are CHEWING through the fence into their yard! They have a baby! Are you Pit Bull lovers so in love with a breed that you would put a Child's life at risk? Just because YOUR Pit Bull loves kids, doesn't mean THESE vicious animals will! What would you advise if it was any other dog doing this? Call Animal Control. Your baby's life, and your right to be in your yard without fear of a dog attack is more important than ANYTHING! Don't wait until something happens. Take photos, and record conversations with your neighbours. Ask them to sign an assurance that their dogs will not go on your property again! Tell them to fix the fence properly or you will take them to court! You have been too nice. Time to toughen up for the safety of your wife and daughter.

Ok, if your dog sleeps on the bed with you then you need to stop this. I know it's hard, I love my dog and he sleeps on the bed with me and he has since I got him. But your dog is deliberately going to your bed because she knows that is where you sleep and it makes you mad. You need to spend a lot of time the next few days in your room and any time she makes a move at your bed run over and tell her 'NO'. Try not to spank her unless she wont listen. Also, when your not home you need to either shut your door, which I don't know if you can do because of the cat. Anytime I would shut my door my cats (3) would claw at the carpet. If this is the case, put her in a crate, or outside. Then when you get home, spend the rest of the day in your room and shut the door when ever you leave it. And the whole time your in your room make sure your watching for her trying to jump on the bed. Another thing is, while your sleeping put her in a crate. Put the crate in your room next to the side of the bed you sleep though. This lets her know that she isn't being thrown out and not loved anymore, she just has to sleep there from now on. I got an over sized crate (X or XXL for my Pit Bull, he was old and couldn't control his bowls) I got it so big so that I could fit a water and food bowl in there along with his favorite blanky and pillow. Good Luck! I hope I helped!!!

This visious circle has more than one element.
Your dog needs to know that it hasn't become #2 in your household. Peeing where it's not supposed to is a way of acting out --- here I am!!! Pitbulls are also very territorial!!! They know their boundaries and will do what they need to protect you from any strange things in those boundaries.
I would get rid of the kitty or re-introduce the kitty slowly on the dog's terms. And pay attention to the dog when the kitty's around.
Just like socializing a beta. The beta needs to know it's not just his bowl, so when you clean out the bowl, he's the first to go out and last one in so there are always fishes in his "pond".

Don't leave the dog outside! She may have a UTI, it's very possible, but it sounds more like she's staking her claim. She may like the kitten, but that doesn't mean that she wants to compete with the kitten for attention. Only punish her when she's caught in the act of peeing on your bed -- but then act really mad (but be careful not to hurt her). She'll catch on.

First, take her to a vet to make sure she doesn't have something medically wrong - UTI or spay incontinence.
Discuss the new kitten thing with the vet as well.
She may be staking her claim to the main nest - as in , MY place is HERE - yours is over THERE. or she is telling you how upset she is because you brought this THING into the house. Or she's excited about the new "pet" and can't control herself.
And discuss a good odor-stripper with your vet as well - once the smell of urine gets into things like mattresses etc. there may be no other option but to replace it. But ask. Do ask.

Does the kitten sleep in bed with you? does the dog sleep in bed with you?
The dog is telling the kitten you belong to her.I would put kitten in another room at night and dog in crate until this subsides.Put the kitten in a big enough room with litter, food and water and toys to play with.Cats like to stay up at night. My boy cat just sleeps with his head on my pillow with me.

Have the dog checked by a vet. Jealous dogs are unpredictable, I would not let him sleep in the bed with me if I were you. Keep him in a crate while you're sleeping.

make sure the area is cleaned with something that will get rid of the urine. i'd shut the door as much as possible. when i was gone away one of my dogs did the same thing - i am going to say he was mad at me - since they know better.

Your dog is establishing her alpha role. Next time she will pee on you. Perhaps its time to do something. "Potty training" means nothing when you own a pitbull.
BTW, why all pits get sold when under 8 weeks is a mystery.
