I am considering the Oster golden A-5 single or double speed, the Protege or the PowerMax. I have been using a Wahl cilpper with 6000spm for 4 years. I would like to upgrade but am confused by all the choices! What difference will I notice between 2000spm versus 4000spm. The clippers in that range cost twice what I paid for my 6000spm Wahl clippers. Isn't faster better? Also, I have been using plastic guide combs. Are metal ones better and do they get hot?

Hi..I'm noticing signs of possessiveness with my 4 month old Havanese. She takes her toys and runs away with them (like we are going to take them away). When she plays with my mom's 7 mo old bichon, she will literally take a toy out of the bichon's mouth even if she has her own toy. If the bichon is drinking water in a bowl, my pup will push her out of the way to get the water. If I am petting the bichon, she will jump right in and kiss me and push the bichon out of the way. She never growls, barks, or goes to bite. Any suggestions on stopping this behavior? My husband and I are planning on having a family soon and I don't want her to jump in the way of a baby. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

**She doesn't show any signs of possessiveness with me and my husband**

Thanks!

I live in Florida, and have a 1/2 lhasa, 1/2 peek-a-poo. He's 10 years old, and he spent the first 9 years in PA with my family, where he never had any major skin problems. But now, he seems "itchy in his own skin". I give him flea medication and treat the lawn with a pet-safe insecticide. I've cut out corn and wheat products from his diet. Still, not much relief. I've tried vets, but all they want to do is sell meds to me without diagnosing him (the steroid and cortizone shots had little or no effect). Anyone have any ideas on what might be wrong or how to help him?

I took my dog for a five mile hike with me the other day. Well long story short he didnt do to well and started to get dehydrated and signs of heat stroke. Well He made it home fine but when he got home he threw up a couple of times. I wet him down to make sure he would cool off quick. The next day I see that he is having trouble walking and using his back legs. any possible answers?

What are the differences in neutering a dog at an early (puppy) age as opposed to an adult dog? Will a dog that is neutered as an adult still be agressive towards other male dogs?

I have a year and one month old full bred miniture pug. He is registered with the AKC. We paid good money for him and hoping to repay back by studding him out, but we have no idea on how we should go about things, Any information would be great. Like what age should we start, what we need to have done before we put a ad out, what should the starting rate be to breed him, what kind of facilities do we need to have, and how long would we keep the female that breeds to him, how long it will take for her to take?
Thanks.

If people aren't breeding with a plan.. And people are just breeding with the dog up the road.. No concerns to the working ability in their breeds.. Breeding to other breeds to make so called ' pretty ' dogs... Breeding the brains right out of the dogs..

Won't we just end up with a bunch of little dogs sitting around on pillows, waiting to get their hair brushed, riding in purses, and impossible to housetrain??? Absolutely none of their original abilities left ...

Do you really want dogs like that??? Aren't those drives and abilities part of what you liked about your dog when you bought him? Or is everyone looking for a dumbed down pretty dog that they can walk at the dog park, and show off to their friends??

I think people that are just breeding their pets cause they can, cause it's their right.. Are destroying what we love about certain breeds.. They're losing the very thing we loved about them.. The fact that they are dogs and their drives brains and abilities....???

I just installed new grass in the backyard and have trained my 5 year old dog to go potty there. The problem is, I've just discovered some small white worms in some of his fecal matter that was left on the grass overnight. When he went potty again, I checked his fresh poop and saw no worms. Are the small white worms considered larvae from the flies or are they from my dog? And are these worms bad for the soil? The patches of grass I installed is in a huge flower-bed like area that I installed with plywood. Thanks.

Without getting into too long of a story, I am forced to give up my 16 month old boxer Molly. I am moving out of town for my job and the place I am moving to will not accept pets (believe me, I tried everywhere to find a place that accepts pets so I could take her with me). I have a couple of people who may be interested in taking her. I am moving in 5 days and I am a mess cause I don't want to say goodbye to her. I have been crying constantly and I am feeling really depressed. This is harder than I thought it would be. I have gone thru a divorce this past year and Molly has been more than just a pet, she has been like a companion, a source of unconditional love when I was going through a rough time in my life. I am going to miss her terribly. Can someone please give me some advice on how to deal with the pain of losing my Molly girl, I could sure use it right now =(
