Totally different dogs. The boston (I am assuming purebred) is smaller (less $ to feed), active but more suitable for an apartment or condo dweller, single coated-sheds but short hair, does have a short muzzle so does snore and snort, can have breathing problems-doesn't do well in heat due to face shape. The golden/ lab mix...about 60lbs (more $$ to feed), double coated breed-med to longer coats that sheds a lot of coat all the time and blows (sheds excessively twice a year), active-they need room to run and play...should have a yard or a dog walker if you both work. It will probably cost you more just due to the difference in size to have the golden/lab mix than the boston but buying a purebred dog will cost you more than adopting a mix from the SPCA...if you do want a purebred make sure the breeder does health testing on the parents, have sire and dam proven for quality buy showing, sell with a health certi, pedigree, sales contract, are registering with AKC or UKC and not a junk registry like ACA.

I have a lab/golden mix and I love him to death. He's just like a really big person (snuggles more than I imagine a Boston Terrier would, and he even snores). He's bigger and requires more food and exercise, but I wouldn't give him up for the world. Get one, but make sure you get one from a great breeder - insocialized lab/golden mixes are terrors.
My lab/golden mix has short, lab-type hair, with a golden-colored coat and a golden personality. He wants to snuggle at night all the time, and in the daytime he wants to play all the time, but he takes naps a lot.
I love my lab/golden mix, and he's the best! You should get one.

you are still a beginner/novice just because you read about dogs doesn't mean you're an expert if you were to read a book on brain surgery, would you expect us to call you an expert on brain surgery over an actual brain surgeon? heck no its good that youve read! but you havent enough american pitbulls can be safe and reliable around children, as any dog can goldens shed alot, so dont get a golden if you dont want alot of shedding never pay attention to the media. the media is usally wrong and only tells 25% of the story. the media portrays that muslims are all terrorists. are they all terrorists? no. only a select fckd up few are. so the media is not reliable dogs will always have medical problems, some different than the others. feed it proparly, take care of it, check ups etc will help. get tests done! prevention is key i suggest a pitbull, theyre lovely dogs and they get shafted by the media. beautiful animal if raised proparly hollyy

I personally could not recommend a better dog than a boston terrier. They are gentle with kids, very intelligent, extremely loving, and learn very fast. I have a 7 month old BT and love him to death :) He loves to snuggle and be around people. He is very playful with me and my children, and always listens when I tell him "No". I hope this helps and I hope you decide on the boston :)

It really depends on your lifestyle. A Bossie is a small dog, suitable for indoors, a snuggler, snores, snorts, and is very cute. A retriever is a big dog who will need room to run, lots of exercise time, lots of love, wouldn't do well indoors for a majority of the time, and doesn't snore and snort constantly.
