I have a year and one month old full bred miniture pug. He is registered with the AKC. We paid good money for him and hoping to repay back by studding him out, but we have no idea on how we should go about things, Any information would be great. Like what age should we start, what we need to have done before we put a ad out, what should the starting rate be to breed him, what kind of facilities do we need to have, and how long would we keep the female that breeds to him, how long it will take for her to take?
Thanks.

Generally you won't make any money on a stud dog unless he is exceptional show quality. If you get a female you would have a pair, so you could make some money back that way. If you have a friend with a pug then maybe you could stud your dog out for her and get the usual payment of one puppy from the litter. You could always raise that puppy and then mate them.

Your male could actually mate fine right now. They will breed from the time they are about 7mo on. With females you should wait until they are around two, but with males it's not that important.

The typical breeding schedule that most responsible breeders use is quite spaced out. It's usually anywhere from every 2 heat cycles apart or approximatly 1 year. Alot of breeders of smaller dogs only breed their females every other year. Do not breed them before 2 years of age, and retire them from the breeding program at the age of 5 or 6. A responsible breeder is someone who is well educated about the breed they raise. They also are more than willing to answer other peoples questions. As for a male they are usually bred on about the same schedule as females, unless they are used as "stud" dogs. They should typically only be used as a "stud" dog if they are of champion bloodlines, and have a history of producing champion pups.

You bought the dog because you wanted him. You dont buy a CD or a movie and make copies to sell to "get your money back"

The only reason you should breed is to improove or preserve the breed. Besides, no one will want to use your dog as a stud unless he is proven.. he should be shown, and earn a CH title, and he should also be OFA'd and CERF'd to proove that he is free of genetic disease. Some breeders prefer that the stud be shipped to the female, and the female be kept at home.

First you join a pug breed club. Attend their activities, learn about the breed, acquire a mentor, show the dog, get a championship and then when your mentor approves it, breed the dog. Now in lieu of that you can breed your pug about two weeks after you have had it neutered.

most people start breeding their dogs when they r two. but the only reason to breed a dog is if it has champion bloodlines. because lets face it. do u think that a champion female's owners will breed to a male that has no champion bloodlines. u should breed to better the breed. not just to make some puppies. so i suggest u show him and get some awards on him and then maybe think of breeding him but if he is just a normal dog with no champion bloodlines then u shouldnt breed him. also u should have health tests done. because if he has major health risks then he could pass it to the pups. and remember u should try to better the breed not get puppies

Get that dog neutered NOW! It is much healthier for the animal and we certainly DO NOT need additional puppies in the world. If someone wants a Pug, they can find them at shelters or rescue groups. Please don't advance the horrible breeding industry.

The mere fact that you are asking this question means you should not breed your dog. Get him neutered and simply love him. If you had got him from a responsible breeder they would have made you sign a spay/neuter contract and not allowed you to do this. Your dog is not something to make money with.

If you need this info you should not be breeding!! Please reconsider, there are already too many poor dogs in shelters being put down due to lack of room! Do not add to this tragedy

you should not get a pet just so you can get the money you paid back for him ITS WRONG.do your re search and re consider there are a lot of pets out there with out a home because of backyard breeders.get a dog because you love and want too not because you wan to get repaid because he was expensive.
