I wouldn't worry about the money if you love her. Just be happy that you have her and let it go. What's done is done and now you just need to look at the positive side: you have a great dog.

she wasn't from a breeder, but a family friend's friend?? and you still paid $1000 for her? sounds to me like a breeder. I can't believe you paid that much for what you could find at any local shelter for $100. and just think of all the things you could've done with the other 900 bucks.
do you realize all of the animals that get put down on a daily basis because people like you that blow money on mutts sold from dishonest breeders trying to pawn off their cross-breeds as something rare or exotic? you'd be surprised. why don't you think about that the next time you're playing with your poo-shitz that you paid $1000 for.

Shih Tzu's aren't ugly.
And, you did a fabulous job for supporting backyard breeders. If you wanted a mutt, go to a shelter. End of story!

So what is your question?
I own a possible cross breed from a shelter and paid the equivalent of US 150 for him.
He is almost 99% purebreed looking, just the head a little smaller than normal. It could just be a variation from the standard or perhaps a cross breed.
I love him to bits, and love him every bit as much as my purebred dog. Except I wouldn't pay $ 1000 for a mixed breed, nor would I ever deliberate cross breed a dog myself, actually I wouldn't breed at all. I leave that to those who know more about it than I do.

Not only is your dog a mutt, but you're an idiot. If you have money to piss away you should have bought a dog from a shelter for about $100 and donated the other $900. At least it would have gone to a good cause instead of into the pocket of some greedy a$$hole.

I have purebred chihuahuas and I have 2 mutts. I love them all dearly. You see I didn't pay some idiot backyard breeder $1,000 for my mutts. One was headed to the animal shelter that day and would have been put ddown because it was an owner turn in. The other was dumped along with her 2 brothers on our road. We rescued all 3 of them found homes for the 2 guys but no on wanted the female so we kept her. Both our mutts are fixed. I would not pay an idiot backyard breeder anything for a mutt.

Doesn't matter. A mutt is 2 breeds of dog, and unfortunately, yes, you'll get ripped off, BIG time. This is exactly why you need to research breeders and get a referral to a REPUTABLE breeder, before buying.
I'm guessing your dog was only meant to be a pet, so love it anyways, and be more careful next time about who you buy from.
Edit- So, if you'd never buy a 100% Shih Tzu, it sounds to me like you KNEW what you were buying. You knew you were buying a mutt. I'm sorry, but no one here is going to feel sorry for you if you KNEW you were paying $1,000 for a mutt...

I think I have a grasp on this. I read your earlier question. You purchased a puppy from a family friend or neighbor. You asked a question on this site thinking all on here just enjoyed dogs and the relationships they their owners have with them. You got many cordial answers until a, I'm assuming, breeder felt the necessity to inform you, as if you didn't already know, your dog was considered to be a "mutt". Oh no!! Now you will never have the opportunity to show you dog. Another fact I'm guessing you were aware of and probably never had any intention of doing.
You saw the pup, you wanted the pup and you bought the pup. For your individual pet you don't love them any more if you got them for free in front of a store, for the price of neutering at the humane society or rescue, or paid top dollar for from a breeder.
All you were looking for and wanted was a dog to share your life with. You got that and for just the right price. A bargain even!

I had gotten a mutt and that was the best and coolest dog anyone could have ever asked for I feel very lucky to have had him. He was also very smart. Now I have pure breed and I love him dearly but he can't compare to the "mutt". I would have paid any amount of money for that dog, mutts are the best!!!!!!!!!

Hey genius thanks for supporting irresponsible backyard breeders. This is one more reason that not everyone should be allowed to breed. Mixed breeding only contributes to genetic health problems and not to better the breed. If you don't like the way a shitzu looks then get one you do like but if you are basing your judgement on how cute a dog is you really shouldn't be getting one. It's a dog and it has needs. It needs to be exercised, socialized, fed a proper and healthy diet, given plenty of water, trained, and groomed, and it needs to be bred to better the breed not look cute for you to tote around like an accessory. By the way you just gave someone $1,000 for abusing their dog. Great job.
