Without getting into too long of a story, I am forced to give up my 16 month old boxer Molly. I am moving out of town for my job and the place I am moving to will not accept pets (believe me, I tried everywhere to find a place that accepts pets so I could take her with me). I have a couple of people who may be interested in taking her. I am moving in 5 days and I am a mess cause I don't want to say goodbye to her. I have been crying constantly and I am feeling really depressed. This is harder than I thought it would be. I have gone thru a divorce this past year and Molly has been more than just a pet, she has been like a companion, a source of unconditional love when I was going through a rough time in my life. I am going to miss her terribly. Can someone please give me some advice on how to deal with the pain of losing my Molly girl, I could sure use it right now =(

I don't know what to say to you except that I am so sorry for your situation.
You're doing the only thing you can at this point in your life. You have tried all other options and it just didn't work out. Please don't feel guilty over the decision that must be made. Sometimes life is very unfair and all we're left with is to try and pick up the pieces and make it better.
You will ALWAYS have Molly in your heart and ALWAYS remember what she meant to you.
I'm so sorry! Shedding tears with and for you. :(

I feel so bad for you, I would really consider purchasing a condo townhouse or home to avoid giving up Molly. Perhaps coax a landlord to charge pet rent? Can someone watch her for you while you search out a place that is Molly friendly? You need Molly and she you giving her up does not look like a good option. I am afraid you will not do well in the new situation with this bothering you, if all else fails make sure you get Molly a good home you can visit her in, and good luck to you.

I am so sorry you feel you are in this situation.
Everybody is different, but I would simply not except a posting where I could not take my dog. I'd rather leave the job. So whilst I would then be very upset to loose a job over this, it is nothing like the pain of loosing your dog.
Have a rethink of your priorities. Nobody is forcing you to give her up. YOU can change your situation at the drop of a hat.
Okay, so you may be unemployed for a while.
To me, a dog becomes part of the family. You would not accept a posting where you can't take your child, would you?

Yes you do get depressed, I know. I had to give up four cockatiels (not even close, I know) since I knew they would not survive the move. I had just gotten them hand-trained and accustomed to the chaotic nature of my home. But I found them a really fine situtation, where the woman was well-versed on 'tiels and macaws. If you can, stay in touch with her new home, also you have two upsets in your home... which makes things worse... It's one thing for marriage to break up - that's a decision, but to have to surrender a pet - that's in some ways harder, because that decision is made for you. Also in your new home, once you settle in, volunteer at the shelter. You sound like you have a lot of love to give, and to share with another animal lets you know that Molly is getting all the love she needs, and so will you...

are you sure you can't get a mortgage? i got one with no money down at all. i had nothing but decent credit and a full time job. no co-signers or anything. it's worth a shot if you'd be able to send for molly when all is finalized. good luck and sorry for what you're going through. just keep crying and letting it out. can you get a new job? can any one in family sit for molly for a while?

Oh dear... find her a great home and get emails/phone numbers - have them send pictures of your girl as she gets older. Give her tons and tons of love.
I understand the love you feel for your pet - few dog owners think of their dogs as mere pets. Make sure you get her a fantastic home that she deserves that will keep in touch with you, so you can honestly tell her she's going to be happy in her new home. See if you can find a way to visit from time to time - make sure her new guardians know that she is something special. I'm so sorry to hear about your situation... best of luck to you!

Have one of your friends keep her until you can get into the new town your moving to and find a place that will let you keep her. I am sorry for all the trouble you have been going through. I know how you feel about your dog. Mine are the same to me. If my dogs can't go, I don't go. I hope it all works out for you. Good luck.

If this were me I would call my new boss and tell him or her that until I can find a place that will accept my dog I will not be able to work for them. If they want you bad enough they will help out.
I would never leave my dog to someone else.

Hard to believe you could not find an apt. that allows pets - many will if you leave a pet deposit in case the apt. needs cleaning and defleaing when you move out.
Try harder. I sure would, your dog will be hurt by your abandoning her, I'm more worried about her than your feelings. Sorry, your dog can't do anything, but you sure could make a better effort to find a place that permits one dog.
