Please tell me of some dane breeders in the UK (south preferably). No backyard breeders or puppymills they are cruel. please dont just say 'no sorry i don't know but you could go to a shelter' etc. because I really need to know of some reliable breeders. I cannot go to a shelter becaue I would like a puppy to train that has been in a proper environment and has been well socialized. Besides, what do you think will happen to the puppies if everyone goes to shelters? please help me.

I have found a white deer tick on my small dog. I have NEVER seen a tick on any of my animals before. I have another larger dog, and want to know what is good for keeping fleas and ticks at bay? I have heard of garlic, but can I use human type of garlic found in health food stores for the animals? Anything else?

We just picked up a puppy today. She is from a litter of 6 that were had by a Mommy that is a neighborhood stray. (Long story) The people that took the Mom in wanted to be rid of the babies now so we had to take her early. Here's the challenge. They said she was still nursing some, but also eating the cheapest soft food on the shelf mixed with a little milk.

I now have the baby on the Goats milk formula for puppies and have even mixed it with soft food... but the puppy now has diarrhea. Since the family that had her is not very good about answering questions, I have no way of slowly weening her from whatever to whatever and have to just leap in there and do what I can at this point. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It's a funny situation because she was being kept outside in a mud hole, in 90+ degree weather with a bucket of green water. Now I have her in doors, out of the muck with good food and TaDa... diarrhea.

We live in a hot/tropical place (puerto rico) and i'm assuming my dog sweats a lot. Since the start of the summer he has been getting numerous ticks. Ticks aren't common for our dog as he only has had infestations like these twice. First time we got it controlled via lots of baths (our dog hates baths! and he's really hard to get to cooperate when bathing) , fumigating our yard and picking them off one by one. But this time we're considering buying something like Frontline for example. Does sweat remove these products? While were at it, is there a pill treatment for tick prevention / removal that i could talk to my vet about? Thanks!

Hello,
I recently bought a Chihuahua pup from a breeder about an hour away. When I saw that the pup was trying to go for my cats nipples I called the breeder to ask what was going on. They let me know that she was only 5 weeks and must have "forgot to tell me" We will do anything for her and try to get her healthy. She seems fine however she only eats a little bit at a time and she wont drink water. I tried milk and she only drank a bit of that as well. We are going to buy a puppy bottle and some form of milk for her to try that way. Should we use human baby formula? If not what should we use?
Is it normal for her to shake?
Should we be crate training her yet or wait till she is older?
I thought we had everything under control until the disgusting breeder told us how young she was and actually let her go at that age!
We will do anything and spend anything to make sure that she is ok!
What should we do?
Thanks
Kassandra

She is 10 years old. She will follow me from room to room finding a place to sleep. I tried to get to excercise but when we do she will not exceed more than walking. I know it is not because of her age, yesterday we went to Petsmart for a vaccination and she acted like apuppy, so I know she has the energy. Now, she is going into my closet, acting very aloof, she never used to act this way. Help!!??

I am at a loss right now.... I'm not sure how to housebreak my puppy....my boyfriend and I got a puppy a few weeks ago and we are not sure how to housebreak her. We've read alot about this topic, and the number one solution seems to be crate training her. The only problem with that is we both work 12-13hrs and we just think that is cruel to put her in there for that long. We have someone that does come over and check on her on a regular basis, but we are running into the problem that they can't check on her everyday. We don't work everyday 12-13hrs a day its more like every 2-3 days then we have 2-3days to spend with her. She is just a puppy and I do understand that it takes time, but I just wanted to know if there was any advice someone could give me....We are trying to paper train her right now but she just isn't grasping it. We even bought some stuff from the pet store to drop on her pads to make her go there, and she doesn't like it.

My 11yr old beloved shih tzu has had Flea allergys (well atleast my vet says) He has had minor irritation since i owned him at 1 yr of age. As he ages the worser his allergy becomes. Within the last 5yrs he has been getting depo steriod shots to relief the VERY bad reaction. I keep frontline on him but that dont stop the fleas from biting. He goes everywhere with me. Right now he has a severe breakout. I just washed him with oatmeal shampoo and started him on a skin and coat supplement. The steriods are causing his joins to get very bad and dont want to keep giving him something. He has developed a lump due to the steriods. His is constantly scratching and yelping cause it hurt even after the bath to sooth his skin. his neck and ears are red and a bit swollen and he has hair missing from his butt where he continues to itch. He is a white and groomed short right now and has NO FLEAS. so im not sure why he is scratching. Anything i can do at home to help him?

I took my small dog to the vet today intending to just get a rabies shot. By the time i came out he had gotten 4 shots, stool tested, and heartworm test (blood drawn). Was all that really necessary? My bill was $189. Needless to say, my dog is in ALOT of pain right now.
