when my dog was that age, i really did not scold her. i just never let her out of my sight, and when she would start sniffing, i would quickly put her on the paper. keep the paper in the same place, like by your door. you will be able to see the signs of when they have to go and they will learn quickly. pretty soon, when she would start sniffing, i would just watch her to see what she would do, and she would walk over to the paper and do her business. they catch on, don't give up. it can be frustrating potty training a puppy. transitioning to outside was pretty simple, too. i just took the pad and dumped her poop where i wanted her to go, and i had her trained in one day to go outside. good luck.

You need to place him on the paper whenever you want him to go and tell him "go potty". Make sure there are a lot of papers at first. Praise him when he goes. When he is loose, he cannot be out of your sight, because you have to catch him in the act so you can say "NO" and place him on the paper. I don't like paper training--it teaches a dog its OK to go to the bathroom in the house. Rather, take him to one spot outside instead. Be very patient. Do NOT tap him on the nose if he has an accident!! That will only cause him to fear you. He can't help it if he has an accident--it is YOUR fault for not watching him. A smack is not a correction, it is punishment and he simply cannot understand that. At 8 weeks he is a baby and needs several more months of patient training to be completely house trained. I recommend you get Dr. Ian Dunbars book "After You Get Your Puppy" , it's a small paperbook just full of wonderful information on puppy training and the best book you'll ever buy. You can order it from Amazon.

Training a dog to pissNshit in the house is a waste of time, ridiculous and confusing to a puppy. Teach the dog to go outside and skip training your dog to go in the house! The person who invented the pee pads has gotten rich from stupid people thinking its a great idea for dogs to shitNpiss in the house! Think about it and train the dog right the first time! Otherwise you will be one of the many people who come here asking in a few months...Why won't my dog stop peeing in the house? Many of these dogs are 8, 9 months of age and older.
Don't tap your dog on the nose. Your dog thinks you are punishing him for peeing.. He has the attention span of a pea. He doesn't get the whole Where to pee yet. Be more dedicated and take him OUTSIDE more often.

Why are you paper training him?? It's so confusing for them to switch them from paper to going outside. If your going to eventually train him to go outside you should start now in your own back yard. Do this by crate training him. Google crate training for more info. Good luck

Crate training is the best way to go in my opinion.
You put them in their crate and when it is time to go potty, you race him to the exact spot you want him to go. Set him down and say "POTTY TIME" over and over till he goes. Then RUSH him back to the crate. NO PLAY TIME! Do this for 5 - 8 days and he will be trained if you do it correctly.

If you paper train your dog you are only asking him to use your house as a toilet.........
