Toby is a great name. I have had two animals named Toby, both at the same time. One, actual name was Tobias, was a St. Bernard. The other was a Buckskin Quarter Horse.

"puppyluv's" answer was a little uncalled for unless that's why ur using that name but "It's me" was right i think of a brown puppy too considering i have one and his name is toby it's up to u really. Maybe u could spell it a different way. like tobie.

If you are trying to make a racial joke by referring to the black slave who was beaten into excepting his name being changed to Toby in the movie roots shame on you. If you honestly do not know about this movie now you do, so no Toby is not a good name for a black puppy.

I love the name. That's what we named our Beagle, that is a tri-colored, but has a mainly black back.

As opposed to a white puppy? I'm sure the dog won't mind whatever you choose to name him.
