My dog had the same issues and they retested her and found due to the liver disease she was diabetic and needed two insulin shots a day in the back of the neck...this saved her for 3 more years. Have your pet checked for diabetes or the start of..also I would give bottled water not tap as the tap water started our ill dog with kidney stones. Best of luck hon.
the Vet should also have special low sodium food they sell that also helps the appetite get back to normal. If your dog is drinking a lot, I would definitely check for diabetes.

Liver disease is a terminal illness, but you can sometimes slow the progression with proper nutrition. There are prescription diets available for dogs with liver disease, ask your vet. Or you could go to www.petdiets.com and have a veterinary nutritionist customize homemade recipes for your dog. They do charge for that service though. Drinking a ton of water is pretty typical with liver disease, the body is trying to flush out toxins and increases thirst because of that. The toxins also cause nausea, which is why she won't eat at times. 14 is a wonderfully long time, well beyond average life span for a Rottie.

Liver failure is a symptom that your dog is very close to the end of her life. Keep her happy and comfortable. Spoil her. And enjoy her and make memories in the hours or days you have left. She is 14. You have taken very good care of her to allow her to get this old. If she becomes very uncomfortable, then do one more thing for her, and help her to pass on easily with no pain.
I'm sorry.

I do sympathise with you. My Rottyx is ten.You are lucky to have your dog at 14. The average lifespan of a Rottweiler is 12 years. It sounds to me as if your dog has Diabetes.I would like to say that she will continue to be OK. But I think you know this isn't true.I have just had to put my best pal to sleep. He was a foxyx, and only 7years old. But I had to help him out of his pain. You are only prolonging the inevitable. The only clue to how she feels is when she stops eating. So I pray for your dog,and I pray you will do the right thing by her.She might be lost to your sight, but your love will keep her spirit alive. God Bless!

You could try giving her Milk Thistle,N - Acetyl cysteine, and Sam-E,which are nutritional supplements for the liver, but I had the same thing happen to my 16 year old mixed breed ,and she lived for about three weeks before we had to have her put down,as she was in pain and would not eat anything.
I'm sorry about your dog. It's very sad when they get old and sick. The best you can do is keep her pain - free, feed her anything she will eat,and when the time comes, let her go.She will tell you with her eyes when she's ready.

That's a very good age for a Rottie. It's sounds like she is in pain when she licks like that. You have had her a good long time and I know it's hard but you better start preparing yourselves for the sad day ahead. I really feel for all of you. I'm so sorry. Take care....

Hills Science Diet-- K/D Diet-- is for the renal system-- sounds like you and your vet need to talk further. Abnormal amounts of drinking can be a sign of danine diabetis, sound slike she needs a blood panel. I don't see where it says she's on tylenol- in your question-- but NO Tylenol for dogs-- no acetometaphin -- for dogs! keep close eye one her and call vet as soon as you can.

Your dog has an aliment of the liver, the vet is giving the dog Tylenol which is toxic to dogs and causes liver damage and it is metabolized through the liver. Why is she on Tylenol?

I could sugar coat this or be blunt. 14 is pretty old for a dog. You are lucky you had her that long.
