Why do you want a Husky?

Make a list of what you want in a dog.

Name 10 things that you want or like. A good breeder will ask you more questions so be prepared to answer them.
for example
1. size
2. activity level (couch potato or athlete)
3. your home, apartment, yard
4. training
5. work are you home?
6. temperment, do you have other pets

This will help you pick the right breed.
Go to http://www.akc.org/index.cfm and look at all the breeds.

Call the national breed club and speak with reputable breeders. I am sure they will tell you the good points and the bad. http://www.shca.org/

Remember a husky is a working breed and they can be very destructive if not given adequate exercise and diversions.

If you admire the Siberian than do your research this will help you find out if this is the dog for your lifestyle.

I think the question you need to ask yourself is, does my personality/lifestyle fit a certain breed of dog?

Siberian Huskies need a lot of exercise. Do you have time to give the dog enough exercise? I work from home so when my Sib was a young dog she got walks every day and dogpark every day.

Is the Sib going to be the only dog? They don't like to be alone. They need company of another dog or a human. Unless you get an adult dog from rescue that likes to be an only dog. My girl has the company of 2 other dogs and they all love each other very much.

When their pups they like to chew on everything. She always had bones to chew on, but seemed to like wood. She chewed-up my kitchen table and underneath all my kitchen cabinets. If you are a patient person, then that is good. If not then, that is not good. The chewing thing can be any breed of dog. The bigger the dog the bigger the damage. I never got mad at my dogs for doing things like that. They are dogs.

As many people already stated is they shed a lot. Especially, twice a year when they blow their coats. When my dog is blowing her coat I brush her about every other day (she hates to be brushed; otherwise I would do it every day). You have to vacuum every day. If you don't mind spending the money, there are good groomers out there who will really take a great deal amount of their undercoat out. Even though I brush her a lot my self; groomers really know how do do this exceptionally well (cost: $75.00).

If you want a dog that is good off-leash. Sib's are definietly not your breed. Siberian's will run off and you'll be lucky to catch them.

In the end I think looking at how much time you have, your lifestyle, breed lifestyle, and how much money you are willing to spend on your dog is the best question you can ask yourself?

All dogs are good dogs, it just depends on the person. If you live in a hot place Husky's ( no matter what type) don't really like it. If you're in the mountains, or just a cool place, they won't mind at all. They tend to not like being left alone, and they need a lot of excersize. If you're ready for a dog, just make sure you can handle all the stuff you have to do for it. Overall I think if you're ready the dog is ready for you.

P.S.
Sorry if those last couple lines sounded corny. ( I tried my best,)

I had a husky as a child and that was the best dog ever. They are loyal and I don't think I've ever met a mean one. All kinds of dogs get bad raps. It's all in how they are raised. Get your husky proper training, socialize it by letting it visit with other people and animals and you should have a great dog.

I had Siberian Huskies for terribly very nearly 2 a protracted time. on the plus area, they are beautiful, eye-catching, and clever. on the minus area, they don't come whilst noted as, so on no account enable them to off leash in an unsecured area. you may have an incredibly take care of backyard- certainly one of mine might climb over a 6 foot fence, yet another might dig and gnaw his way below or with the aid of a fence. They dig. They chew. The lower back backyard would be a moonscape. They shed, and shed handfuls in spring and fall. They require lots of exercising and earnings from obedience education. they have a solid prey force, and would kill cats besides as rodents. i like them, yet they are actually not an person-friendly breed to stay with for the above reasons.

any dog regardless of breed can be a good dog and pet. It all depends on whether the owner is going to have the time or the personality to be in the alpha position. Go to www.dogbreedinfo.com there is some great info there about the different breeds. Or go into a barnes and noble and check out the books. Dont have to buy it just check it out. ALso go to the breeds club website. they will tell you pros and cons about the dog. http://www.shca.org/

they are great dogs. But independent. Training them is a must, and positive reinforcement is the best way to get them to work. I've seen Siberians running Agility after clicker training. Great dogs, good with people.

as long as you get it from a puppy age u should have no problems as long as u start training at an early age so that the dog doesn't learn any bad behaviours because their a hard dog to train when their older so get in nice and early that's all i can say

excellent dogs - just one of the most difficult dogs to train - make sure you find a great trainer to help! By the way, realize how much exercise this breed needs!!!

Whether they would be a good dog for YOU, is the question. They are quite independent, not at all like a Golden retriever, for example. Their temperament is quite variable...and unpredictable. I do not recommend them around children or as an off leash dog where there are other dogs. They can be quite aggressive toward other dogs and generally bond with only one person...not very friendly towards other people...a little standoffish and sometimes UNfriendly. Would this be a good "pet" for you?? That's YOUR decision.
