I have a six month old Beagle and I can’t seem to get her to sleep at night. She has been fine up until the last week or so. She sleeps in my bed and I keep the door closed but recently she has just been crying to get out. I walk/run her every night before we go to bed to try to ware her out. I am not home with her during the day but I play with her a lot when I get home. She has bones and toys to play with on the floor in my room but all she wants to do is get out – she cries and scratches at the door for like 2 hours. I go to bed at 9:30 and she stays up until midnight. She also wakes me up at 4am to eat in the morning. Help!!!!

Today German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois's are widely recognized as the top service dogs in the world. This is why these breeds are used almost uniformily for miliary and police work around the world. Working line German Shepherds are renowned for their solid nerves and superiour temerament, but in general are less agile, and healthy than the Belgian Malinois. Both breeds have the drives necessary for serious work, and are relatively similar in type.

Why not cross the two breeds for a better overall working dog?

I have a 7 month old boxer puppy named Griffin. Right now he weighs about 61 lbs. The collar he has now is 18 inches in length and is on the last hole. I m guessing that by the end of the summer the collar will need to be replaced. I am not sure what size collar to buy him. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I now own a 6-month old dog. One of my neighbours like her very much. She likes to play with her. The problem is, she keeps letting her do things that I as the master want to get rid of, for example, playing too roughly. Besides, she keeps giving opinions about my dog's health, food etc. when she has never owned a dog and her information seems to be wrong according to what I've found online! For example, I think she gave her human cakes and food(normally oily and salty). Her reason was 'she looks pityful...'. I've told her many times that it's not good for dogs. AND, my dog seems to love her so much!!! On the other hand, I can't give her these things, or allow her to chew and bite even though I know she loves it because it's not good for her!

Do you think dogs recognise those who give them pleasure as masters, rather than those who really care for them? How do I make myself a master for her?

I'm worried that our heating bill would go up in the winter if there are cracks or spaces in the dog door opening. Is this a standard problem with dog doors? Should I even bother getting one? Our dog is about 24 inches high, if that helps.

I just got my dog about 3 weeks ago. He is almost 2 years old and a chihuahua/pomeranian mix and I'm having a lot of trouble with him. He's scared of strangers and other dogs. He even bit me once because someone else was yelling at him and he thought that was the other person's hand. He bit my mom too. So today I was walking around in the backyard and he got so excited and jumped all over me so I told him to sit to calm him down, but he wouldn't so finally I yelled at him and he just peed on my foot. Same thing happened again later on that same day. He doesn't listen to me anymore...I really don't know what to do with him. PLEASE HELP!!!

This is a question for serious dog lovers who can look at a dog and identify them right away. My girlfriend and I have a pomeranian and we've been told plenty of times that people think she's not a purebread. I dont know how to identify dogs like that so we have NO IDEA what she can be mixed with. Her name's Chuchi and from what we were told by the seller she's a purebread. What do you think? I took my 1 1/2 year old male miniature schnauzer to the vet/groomer yesterday to get a haircut and his kennel cough and rabies vaccinations. As soon as we got home, I noticed that he appeared to have something wrong with his right eye - he had a small amount of yellowish discharge, his eye was bloodshot, and he was really pinching his eye off when I tried to look at it.

This really irritates me because he JUST got back from the vet and, on their intake sheet, they noted that his eyes were clear. I'm obviously going to get a new vet, but I don't want to do it while his vision is at stake. I would like to know if anybody has any idea what is wrong with him and, if so, if it will require a trip to the vet.

I have a yard that is bordered by my neighbors fences right now, except on one side. There is a privacy fence on one side and a 4 ft. chain link across the back of my yard. I am considering finishing off the rest of my yard with 4 ft. chain link fence when I get my Great Dane. However I was talking to a friend who has a Great Dane/Retriever mix who told me he had problems w his dog clearing a 5 ft. fence!! I didn't think Great Danes were jumpers. Is it worth putting a fence up? It would be stupid to put a privacy fence up b/c the back side of my yard still has the 4 ft. chain link. What would you suggest?

I have two toy fox terriers around 2.5 years old and I can not potty train them. I have tried a few different methods to no avail. I can't get rid of them... I tried... but I love the little heathens too much. Basically we have a three level house and they will go downstairs to poop/pee if I am up in my room and will not alert me. If I am on the main leve\ l they will let me know they want out most of the time. Could a doggy door help this situation? I let them play in the yard most of the day now that its warm and when i let them out they go... so they know its right to go outside I think. They just have so many accidents and they freak out when I crate them at night (which is bad for sleep deprived new parents). I was going to get kiddy gates and keep them confined to the kitchen (where messes are easily cleaned) and allow them access to a doggy door. Do you think this will solve the problem? Anyone with a similar situation?

okay heres the deal. I want a great dane puppy sooo bad. i will be 17 in July and i work at an animal hospital. I know this breed very well. i know food intake, medical problems and how to fix them, how difficult they are to train, how big they get, their personality everything. I have the money and i have found the dog. i told her about it and she even helped me name it! then the next day she says i cant get it. wtf? her boyfriend changed her mind. i told her: "whats the big deal you don't have to do anything with it except look at it every now and then." ahhhh!!! she says its to big. well she could have told me that before she said i could get it. i get discount on medical and can add anything to my account, i get FREE dog obedience classes, dog food will be like 65 bucks a month. & i have money for everything else it will need. she has nothing to worry about. but noo. so how do i get her back to the state of mind she was in before she talked to her boyfriend cause im at a total loss

We have a 9 year old German Shepherd/Husky mix who had been obedience trained when we adopted her at 5 years old. She's a very sweet natured dog and has always adhered to the things she was taught, one of which was to never sleep on the bed. She knows this, and has even crawled onto our bed with a couple of times when she was terrified of the beeping smoke detectors (she's lovable, not a watchdog LOL). But several times when we all went out for the evening, I've found very obvious evidence that she'd not only been on the bed, but all over it (she sheds a lot this time of year, the hair she leaves behind is VERY obvious). She's never done this before, and we've lived in the same house for going on 4 years now. Just out of curiosity, what could be causing this unusual behavior?

thank you!!
