How about finding a doggie backpack and have him carry along some water and a collapsible bowl on your walks? He'll think of it is as his job and the added weight will make your walks even more effective as far as working off his energy and tiring him out.

Ah the Samoyed...like the husky, a dog that was bred to run hundreds of miles pulling a sled. You are right they are a working dog and need to be kept busy. Can you run him (perhaps alongside a bicycle)? How about obedience or better yet agility classes?

Have you ever tried a busy ball? You put treats in the ball and the dog has to figure out a way to get them out. That might help. Also, you dog might like agility training or other regular training for the regular interaction with you. Good luck with your high energy pal!

Look up "environmental enrichment" for animals/dogs. You can give him Kongs filled with treats to work on. You can hide pieces of kibble around the house for him to find. Take him to obedience classes. Buy a book on dog tricks and teach him. Make obstacle courses (keep it safe) and do agility with him. Find a good natured dog friend to play with--that's the best!

You can train your dog to do anything. Work on tricks. Try something that comes naturally to him. If he trows his paw at you when he wants attention teach him to shake. If he rolls around on the floor, teach him to roll over. Start with small things. Use your imagination. You have a lot of years to teach him whatever you want!! Good luck. The most important thing though, is keep it fun!!!!!!

Find a toy he enjoys and play tug-o-war or fetch. Vary the toys such as using rope toys, squeekie toys, or rubber toys. Give plenty of belly rubs or scratch the lower back or head. You can also give him a rawhide but only once every three days or so. Don't let him eat the whole thing in one sitting.

i think he needs more exercise...think about it....would 40 minutes a day of mental or physical stimulation be enough for you? you've got a couple of working breeds in there at least and they need lots of exercise...like running, hiking, sniffing.
while you are gone hide small treats around for him to sniff out....take him for a good old fashioned run til he's tired. hiking in the woods is the best....he gets to run and use his nose. how about setting up an agility course at home?

Sure you're keepin your dog healthy and fit by walking him, but I think you're walking him too long and he either gets tired or just simply bored. Try playing a game like fetch or get the slippers.
