I took my 1 1/2 year old male miniature schnauzer to the vet/groomer yesterday to get a haircut and his kennel cough and rabies vaccinations. As soon as we got home, I noticed that he appeared to have something wrong with his right eye - he had a small amount of yellowish discharge, his eye was bloodshot, and he was really pinching his eye off when I tried to look at it.
This really irritates me because he JUST got back from the vet and, on their intake sheet, they noted that his eyes were clear. I'm obviously going to get a new vet, but I don't want to do it while his vision is at stake. I would like to know if anybody has any idea what is wrong with him and, if so, if it will require a trip to the vet.

Edit to add: He was groomed first, then was seen by the vet.
The vet he had been seeing was wonderful, but they closed several months ago. He has only been to this vet a couple of times, so I will have no issue with changing caretakers.
Thanks to everyone who has answered so far, and to everyone who will answer in the future.

Your dog was probably first seen by the vet, then groomed. So, perhaps the groomer got shampoo in his eyes or poked it with a comb or scissors. Whatever it is, though, clearly it happened when he was at the vet/groomer if his eye was perfectly normal before going.
"I'm obviously going to get a new vet, but I don't want to do it while his vision is at stake."
I don't understand why you don't want to go to a new vet now? Whether the groomer did injure the dog's eye, or whether the vet did, you should change because that veterinary office should not hire someone who isn't capable of examining or grooming a dog without hurting it.

First go get him to a new vet a very good reason to go and just tell them what happened and you didn't want to take back to the vet you had used if this is how it's returned.
If it was hair it shouldn't be a yellow discharge.
And I have worked in vets and if an animal was bought in for primary it's grooming I was to give the dog it's shots and the vet never even looked at the dog and I worked at several through the years.
the ones usually at check in doesn't know much of anything I had one dog bought in and had the vet check and it ended up having mange but at check in it said skin clear.
I had the same thing at my mothers doctors office the receptionist who don't really know anything but would try to prescribe and refuse to let the Dr. know there was a problem.
My mother has some really bad medical problems and if she gets a cold she can't just go to the drug area and buy allot of over the counter drugs and a lot of what the receptionist would per scribe could have killed her or at least got her in the hospital.
PLEASE GET HIM TO TEH VET FOR A RECHECK DON'T WAIT.

convinced you resources a canines conventional Benedryl. I even gave my cat one even as it replaced into bitten by a snake and that helped. I guess it has an eye fixed an infection although. you should purchase contact lens saline and rinse its eyes out each and every few hours to objective to bathe it out. Doing that isn't damage some thing and can want to in ordinary words help. If it doesn't pass away in per week of doing that then it would want to wish an antibiotic. If its drowsing in poison ivy then that's going to in ordinary words worsen, so go searching for that or some thing else that's brushing hostile to and getting into its eyes.

It could be something simple, like the groomer got a little hair in his eye and it irritated him so much that his eye got red and itchy. It's probably no big deal, nothing to worry about.
A cat of mine once got chronic red eyes and we learned it was the windy conditions kicking dust into his eyes. We gave him medicated eye drops for a few days and he was just fine. That was years ago, and he's still right as rain.

Call the vet and tell them. It could be something got in it on the way home and that it was fine at the office. But yes don't wait to call and let them know.

He probably just has some hair in his eyes from the grooming. You know how irritating it is when you get an eyelash in your eye. It has probably just caused a little irrittation. Call the vet and ask what you can use in the eye.

First, you need to learn about vaccinations. Please read the Wisconsin weblink. They are not needed every year.
http://svmweb.vetmed.wisc.edu/articles/68/5/39.
You can go to a pet store and buy Terramycin. This is an antibiotic salve meant for the eyes.
I'd be mad at your vet too. Good luck on finding another.

Could the groomer have poked him in the eye accidentally?
