The cat actually tolerates the dog better than he does cats. If he's higher up, the puppy gets a few swipes on the nose, but once the cat gets down, there's a mad dash around the house while the cat tries to get to another high place. The puppy doesn't attack the cat, but tries to pounce and play. For the cats sake, I'd like to stop pup doing this. Help. Visitors think we live in a nuthouse. They will actually eat out of the same bowl at times. It's just when the cat is on the move the problem starts.

This has happened 3 times to me lately and has happened in the past in different cities... I am a runner and a dog that is lost will come from out of nowhere and decide to stay with me. I acknowledge them at first because I feel bad for them but then I don't really talk to them or pet them because I am focused on my run. The dog will stay with me even when I am 4 miles out from my home. On the sidewalk, over bridges in the heat. When I get home I give them water and food and call the owner or animal control.
Just wondering if anyone out there knows the psychology behind this because it keeps happening to me?....This has never happened to my husband and he runs more than I do.

Edit: This is not meant to present the animals in a negative light..I think they are great but I am honestly asking a question.

We took our dog to the woods for the first time (we've only had him 2 weeks), and have discovered his love of rolling in poo!! We have brushed him, but we can't bathe him as he's a Westie with sensitive skin who shouldn't be bathed too often- how can we rid him of the stink? And can we stop him rolling in it in the first place (short of keeping him on the lead when he loves to run and play!)
Thanks for your help!

I'm hoping someone can point me to a good page online akita training, something free preferably but if you have a suggestion for a book or video that proved invaluable in trainging your dog, thats welcome also. Also if you have any personal expeirience with training akitas suggestions and tips are most appreciated.

thanks!

*btw (since im sure it will come up) i do know the responsibilty of having the akita breed and i was raised around balanced akitas and wish to do it,

My dog uses Eukanuba dry dog food small bites for adult dogs small breeds. On the news it showed a bag of the food she eats, yet I hear it is ony the moist dog and cat food can you let me know. They should not show the dry dog food on news reports. Chico, CA and Redding

I have a 11 month old dog called patch he is a cross between a jack russel and a cocker spaniel. He was brought up with our other dog sammy (they are both male) they got on really well but would fall out at times cause sammy is old and patch was a bit much at times. Anyway me and my fiance moved in together and patch is a bit more naughty now nothing really bad but more naughty. I really want another dog, partly because I think patch misses the company of sammy. Patch hasnt been castrated yet but will be soon. Do you think we should get another one, if so is male or female better? He gets on well with my friends female boarder collie (and she hates other dogs usually)they love running round lots. We sort of rescued patch he wasnt very well looked after and had skin problems and was under fed. He is now very happy but we feel he is lonely. Any advice please

I have two dogs that both sleep in the lounge together. They go for a walk at 10pm every night before bed to do their business. Recently, the older one has started whining at about 5am every morning. To start with I thought it was because he needed the toilet but when I let him in the garden, he just sits by the back door. It's starting to wear a bit thin now (not that I'd ever hit him or anything), and I have a full time job and need some decent sleep. He goes to work all day with my other half, so he's not stuck in the house, and gets walked at least twice a day. He's 9 so surely he should be past the stage where he's acting like a pup? I don't want him sleeping on our bed with us either, as there is not room for two dogs and he'd be just as noisy. How do I get him to stop before I go crazy?!

She is going to get X-rays done today so i will post the results when i hear them. She is a German Shepherd puppy. When the vet looked at her, he said she has early signs of it. My aunt said she gives her a year to live. This puppy is the same puppy that i talked about in a past question. She has fought for her life from 3 days old. The vet wanted to put her down because she had a cut from the middle of her chest across her shoulder to her back. Her mother accidentaly cut her when she was cleaning her when she was born. We fought to keep her alive and it hurts so bad to think that she has to go through this too.

It's my aunt's dog. I was there when the puppy was born so I am very attached. She was originally going to be sold, but my aunt doesn't want to put someone else through the pain she went through when she had to put down her one german shepherd with hip displaysia. So she is keeping her and is going to try to give her a good life. I love this dog so much.

We just adopted him a week ago. We have another female boxer that he eats her food as well even if they are seperate. So we have been telling him no, when he goes towards her food dish and he growls. Today he nip at my husband when he told him no twice. Should we get rid of him? We have two small children that our female boxer doesn't seem to mind but I worry he will attack my children.

I have a large dog- 190 pounds. We just went to the vet and he said that my dog is not over weight he is just BIG. He recommened that I just keep food in my dogs bowl at all times, i'm not sure I agree. I'm thinking 3 or 4 cups of food per day.
What do you think?

I adopted him 3 weeks ago. And except for the growling when I scold him I think he is great. He is 6 years old and he was raised with 2 other dogs bigger than himself so I understand he had to be very defensive. The growling when I play with him does not concern me. But I am very concerned that he does it when I scold him because he bares his teeth. I do not back down but I wonder if he will actually attack me or if this is just a front. He has not been nuetered and I am wondering if this would help[.

I have good news my puppy is doing very well today! She still has not ate anything but she is in great hands at the vet.
Unfortunatly there is no cure for the Coronavirus it just has to flush out of her system. Has anyone here dealt with this virus on a 20 week old puppy?

We are a few days away from having registered GSD puppies and we already have people that are asking to buy them. We dont know how much to sell them for though. Obviously we will get the money back that it takes to get vaccinations and registation...but how much do these dogs normally go for? Both dam and sire have a lot of german bloodlines in them, so they will be some pretty big dogs...does that make a difference?

My boyfriend has a 3-month-old male Scottie named Rex. I've heard that this type of dog is very stubborn, and in order to train him, we need to have a crate. However, my bf he loves his pup and never wanted to buy a crate because he said that it's mean to the dog. He lets Rex, a little dog, have a whole big floor...Therefore, Rex pooped and peed everywhere. I've told him many times that he needs to put Rex in the crate when he's still a pup because it would be harder to train Rex when he's older. The problem is that my bf goes to school and work everyday and won't be home until about 8 hrs later. No one is home during the day either. Would it be ok if we let the pup inside the crate in a long period of time? I know that dogs never poop where they sleep. So is it ok for the pup to hold it?
We have had him for 2 months now and he's still not trained at all.

He found it outside on a walk he had it in his mouth and I tried to get it from him and some tore off (about a inch) and before I could get it he swallowed it. That was yesterday, he has been making poops last night and this morning but I haven't seen a peice of paper come out. Should I be worried? It is wax paper they use on the burgers isn't it? If it was toxic shouldn't he be showing signs of sickness already? He appears to be fine. (he's a Chihuahua)
