We are a few days away from having registered GSD puppies and we already have people that are asking to buy them. We dont know how much to sell them for though. Obviously we will get the money back that it takes to get vaccinations and registation...but how much do these dogs normally go for? Both dam and sire have a lot of german bloodlines in them, so they will be some pretty big dogs...does that make a difference?

My aunt breeds and sells her AKC German Shepherd puppies. She sells her's for $500 each. Some people sell females for more than the males because they can reproduce many litters so people see females as a more valuable dog than males. Also, $500 for an AKC German Shepherd puppy is a GREAT DEAL. Some big time breeders can sell their puppies from $1,000 to even $2,000. But most of them have all championship bloodlines and show dog qualities. Check your dog's backgrounds for championships. Then think about how much you would like to sell your puppies for. And, qualities of a show dog are very simple to tell. The owner of the sire my aunt breeds with told her that if the newborn pups have a white spot on their chest that means they are of show dog quality. I hope I have helped out.

There is a lot that goes into breeding and selling a German Shepherd. I have owned, trained and used my Shepherds for search and rescue.
When you say "both sire and dam have a lot of German bloodlines" I am not sure what you are saying.

First and foremost, these are very intelligent dogs and the ideal age to sell a puppy is at 7 weeks old. Younger is not good as they need their moms; at age 8 weeks, all puppies go through a fear period, and traumatic things will imprint them. Such as freight because of a thunder storm; there are many things that can frighten and imprint a puppy.

You need to know the quality of your puppies and what the prospective buyer is going to use the dog for: show dog? - do the blood lines support the quality of your pups; obedience dog? or a pet. Within the litter itself the quality of the pup can vary, or all can be a great choice.

There are AKC standards for every breed of dog, and if your sire and dam are not within those standards, it may be a flaw for someone interested in a quality show puppy. What kind of temperament are the parents? shepherds should have a very pleasant personality and mentally alert and confident and not aggressive.

The quality of your sire and dam and their pups is a big factor in price. For my shepherds, I have paid as much as $1,000 and as low as $500.00. I looked for a quality breeder; one who socialized the pups and gave them excellent attention. I also had a pet shephered and paid $125.00.

Unless a new owner is going to breed a dog, and understands breeding, you should tell them to neuter or spay their puppies.

I hope this gives you some idea; breeding is a big responsibility, as people expect a quality dog.

Hope this helps.

are both the sire and the dam proven? do they have either show titles or shutzhund behind them?are their hips and elbows OFA certified? being akc register means nothing. are you offering a written health guarantee for the pups? (meaning are you willing to take the dog back if it has health problems such as dysplasia? have they been temperament tested?) if you haven't thought about that...it should be considered when pricing your pups no matter how beautiful they are. I own a German bred GSD and I paid $1200 for him ( his dam is Sch3 level and his sire is Sch3 with bomb training). if your dogs (dam and sire) have the titles behind them then you could ask anywhere from$800-$1500 for them with the guarantee. if they do not have the titles to back up the pedigree you should sell them only as pet quality for about $ 250-400 a piece

Depends on where you live. You should go on the AKC site and get the paper work to register this litter or at least get some idea on how to do it.
Her where I live a AKC registered pup would go for no less than $1,200.00. I live in the North East in the USA.

If the dogs themselves have not "done" anything then you would really be "selling' pet quality dogs...not a high price and where you are located would greatly change that price. but a typical AKC registered GSD would run 250-500...from what i have noticed....

My co-worker just paid $800.00 for a beautiful german shepherd puppy with papers.

Do an online search and see what you come up with, or scan the newspaper in your area and see if anyone else is selling them.
I bet raising puppies is FUN! I just bought an Australian Shepherd and am having so much fun!

I'd say around $700 would be good, depending on whether or not they have registered grand champions in the last three generations, and whether or not they are registered with the American Kennel Club or the Continental Kennel Club (worthless).
