A neutered dog only gets fat and lazy if the owner can't be bothered to feed and exersize it properly. All my male dogs are neutered, becuase I grew up on a farm. Its normal for farmers to neuter male animals, because entire males are different. They are more aggressive, not as easy to handle, and only have one thing on their mind.
Thats where the problems start. What a dog (male or female) never has, they never miss. But once they've bred it awakens the instinct to do so and they want to do it again. You may have seen females pretending to mother a stuffed toy. The owner thinks its cute. How does it feel to want a baby that badly? Its desperately sad. Males are the same.
Male stud dogs are treated in a certain way by experienced breeders. You don't just bung two dogs in a room and let them get on with it, or you get embarassing incidents when the vicar comes for tea.
You wear a certain set of distinctive clothes, you use a specific room, oyu put a garish carpet down and thats where the stud dog works. It helps keep his mind off the job when you're not putting all those cues together.
But any male should not be used for stud until he's 2 years old, been tested clear for hip dysplacia plus any other genetic faults, and is a show champion.
Theres just no good reason to use any old dog to breed. There are too many second rate pups around.
Tell your bf that if he's serious, he has to pay for the tests, research this properly, and do all the work. That includes dealing with the paperwork and the clients, sorting out fees and advertising, deciding if you offer 'no pup no fee' or 'no pup free return'.

I have a Boxer dog and he was neutered when he was 12mths old.
It hasn't calmed him down totally cos he is a Boxer, and all Boxers are known to be a silly breed of dog, but I have noticed a difference in some aspects of his behaviour.
All vets recommend neutering as it can prevent against testicular cancer.
I am against dogs for studding cos u never know where the puppies end up.....
Do what u feel is right!

Take him to be neutered. There are too many dogs that need homes out there as so as it is. Do a search on Petinder for the breed of your dog and show your BF just how many of them are already sitting in shelters and rescues waiting to find homes. You can also get information from the internet to show him just how bad of an idea it is to stud out your dog. There are so many things that can happen. Plus, unaltered males are at a 50% higher risk to develop cancer.

unless your dog is a pure breed with papers, there is absolutely no reason to stud him out. and, even if he has papers, there is no guarantee that anyone would want him as a stud unless he has prize winning ancestors. such is the way of dog breeding.
look at it this way, no matter what, if you do not have him neutered, and ANY female dog goes into heat within a 3 mile radius, he will constantly be running off to find them. this puts your dog in danger of a) being hit by a car while running the neighborhood, b) possibly being shot by hunters during hunting season (if you live in a remote area where hunting may occur), c) getting in a fight with stranger-dogs, d) being found, fed, and kept by someone who thinks he was a stray.

Here's the pro's and con's of nuetering.
PRO'S:
1)if you nueter at the age of six months, the likelyhood of prostate cancer goes down by 90%.
2)a male dog can smell a female dog in heat from up to two miles a way and they will travel to find her. meaning he could get lost and shot if you live out in the country or picked up and sent to animal control/adopted by another family in a city.
3)even though it can take up to 6 months for the testostore to leave the body completely, they will be less agressive when it comes to other dogs, and females that are in heat. the temperment of the dog doesn't change. just the need to breed.
4)cuts down on rectal tumors and cancer
the con's
you can't breed
even if you do decide to breed him, do it once or twice and then have him nuetered. there are too many puppies out there anyways. look at all the shelters and foster homes out there filling up.

Unless your boyfriend is genuinely interested in becoming a full-time professional breeder, he should have the dog fixed...
And if you didn't buy the dog from a professional breeder, with genuine professional papers, no other professional will even LET the dog stud.
And if you bought him from a store, he is a puppy mill puppy and any papers you might have are B.S.
I think your boyfriend is just uncomfortable with neutering, like a lot of insecure men...

Is your dog a pure breed? That would be the only reason. Be sure you have papers.
Check with your vet. Some male pure breeds can stay unneutered, but most dogs need it for their long-term health.
In general, neutered animals are easier to handle and will not pee on your furniture and try to run away.

I got a 10 month unaltered beautiful male maltese with papers. However, I plan on getting him fixed next week. There are already too many little purebred and mutt puppies running around without a home. I will leave the breeding to the professionals. You should too.

If it is not a champion show dog, you will not get much of anything for it. Better for the dog to be neutered.

Not a good idea at all. You may give your dog to someone who has no regard for your dog at all. Would be better if other people brought there dog to your property and have it covered there. I would never ever let my dog out of my sight. You never know someone might just steal him.
