He will be the large poodle and I plan to have him in a straight cut ( not a kidney cut) as he will be a pet not a show dog. My husband says that when you give pets a longer name people shorten them anyway. Any ideas?

Okay, I took my dog into the vet's and they insist she has a sinus infection. I gave her the first dose of antibiotics, but tonight she is secreting bright red blood from her nose (before it was brown). I am very worried. Has anyone experienced this with their dog before? Do you have any suggestions? To top it off, she is very lathargic and the vet gave antidepressants. Why?! I am so very worried about her. Does anyone have any suggestions that may have been overlooked by me or the vet? Thank you!

Just like on the 101 Dalmations movie, I see a young woman in my neighborhood who looks like her Afghan dog; tall, slender, and long straight hair. Do you ever see other people that resemble their dogs?

I also wonder if some people's dogs have personalities similar to their owners. What do you think?

I ask because if I look anything like my pit/lab mix, then I must be pretty short and stocky (not a good thing in my opinion). I do also feel like my dog has a personality similar to mine.

Just want some opinions on what people think....please no mean comments--this question is just for fun!

Every time I leave my apartment, even if it's only for 10 minutes, my Blue Heller will take food off the counter and tear open the trash. I try to remove anything that she might get into before I leave, but every once in a while I will forget something like a small bag of trash by the door or a small amount of food on the kitchen countertop. For instance, today I left my apartment for only 10 minutes at the most, and accidentally left a bag of tortillas on the countertop. When I came home there was tortillas all over my kitchen floor!

Also, whenever she does something like that it's as if she KNOWS she has done a bad thing because instead of greeting me at the door like she does when she has not destroyed anything, she cowers in the corner with her tail between her legs. She KNOWS she has been a bad dog.

What can I do to break her of this awful behavior?

my new dog keeps eating my cat's food when we go to bed at night. We would put it up somewhere the dog couldn't reach except my cat is really old and has arthritis. Therefore, she can't easily jump onto counters or tables anymore.

Does anyone know anything that could stop our dog from eating the cat's food?!
(not only is the cat not getting food, but my dog is getting chubby!!)

I asked a question a few minutes ago about a chihuahua I found in my yard today in the snow. It's obvious he's not purebred and just out of curiousity, can you tell me what he could be mixed with? I know nothing about this breed but his legs are too long for a chihuahua. I'm waiting for his owner to claim him, this is just out of my own curiousity. Here's a pic of his face and then full body standing.

I have two chihuahuas and I'm moving to South Carolina. I'm taking my 2 chihuahuas with me on a plane. I'm trying to think if it would be a good idea for me to buy an cheap airline ticket (domestic) from a travel website (Priceline, etc.). Then later go to the airport and pay a fee of $50 to $90 per dog to travel with me on plane.

I just adopted a dog two weeks ago, he showed signs of kennel cough, I noticed at first mucos from his nose, which could have been from the bordetella treatment given. He coughs with uper respiratory breathing affected aswell. But he remains active, eats well... He's up , he sleeps , he's up he sleeps... I'm not certain what is normal breathing for the dog, being that I've never owned a dog... I took him to the vet the first week, vet couldn't give me an answer, said it could be pnemonia or a fatal virus of some sort.. He was given clavamox and vitamins.. He also has worms that they gave him shot for and had previously been treated for, during the first week, he did show some temperature that I thought normal for a dog, but as I have read up is not, since given his treatment a week later his cough has gotten a bit better but is still there and his breathing at times is fine and at times not. I'm not so worried about the worms as I am over this cough that might take him to the grave.

I came home from the pet store today to find a chihuahua half frozen in my snow covered yard. I could hardly even see him! I immediately brought him in the house and got him warmed up, fed, and watered. I then put up signs all over looking for the owner and called animal control to report it. They won't be able to come get him for 5-6 days since I agreed to foster him until the owner shows up or they can get here. (loads of problems there right now with distemper exposure) He has no tags and appears very skinny. I know NOTHING about this breed because I have always been partial to large breed dogs. So my questions are:

1) Is it normal to see their spine and hips? It's not extremely prominant but definately clearly noticable.

2) Are sore on the leg joints common in chihuahuas?

3) Do the legs normally have very little fur on them?

4) Is it common that he does not bark at all or even really respond to sounds other than a kissing sound?

More coming.......

They told me at the shelter that she was "Chihuahua/Terrier". I can see the Chihuahua but can not figure out what else. For a while I was thinking Jack Russell but I don't think that is right. Here are the pics, I tried to get all her "looks". She is about 15 lbs and super soft on the head and ears and has a little thicker fur around the neck. Also note the curled, white tipped tail. I love her no matter what but just have to figure this out!!
