He ate it about an hour ago and I'm not sure if it's one of those things that he needs his stomach pumped for.

I rotfl not at you or your dog but what people think batteries are made of. Car batteries have lead and acid not AA's regular are carbon, zinc and magnesium dioxide, alkaline no acid, NiCads Nickel and cadmium

Risk is possible sharp edges on the metal cutting something, but if it is he's in for surgery not stomach pumping

Dog Ate Battery

Your dog has some amazing teeth to chew a battery in half. I wouldnt do anything to make it upset.

Batteries contain many toxic heavy metals, and acid. So yes I would call a vet, that is if I believed your dog ate half a battery.

Call the veterinarian or an emergency veterinarian immediately-or just take the dog into an emergency veterinarian now. If a small battery can blow up once it is consumed and kill/seriously damage a child should they swallow it, I'm sure a dog eating half a battery is a very serious issue and getting help from a veterinarian shouldn't be delayed.

Well...

A AA battery is a cell with liquid chemicals in it, where this chemical is transformed into electricity and power.

If he ate half of that, who knows what will happen to your dog.

Shouldn't risk it though. If you were battery poisoned about an hour ago, there might be little chance of survival.

A vet has experience in dogs eating chocolate, coffee, socks, carpet, cooking grease...but not necessarily in batteries. I'm a little shocked your dog swallowed any of it once he got the casing open.
Anyway, call POISON CONTROL. They have the bigger database on caustic ingestibles, and they'll tell you how big of a problem it's likely to be, whether your dog needs his stomach pumped, and what you can do to minimize the damage while you wait. Tell them exactly what kind of battery it is: lithium? alkaline? and how long ago the dog ate it. Once you have the basics from poison control, get them in touch with your vet if you need to take your dog in.

Batteries contain lead and acid. The battery acid half in his stomach is going to cause internal bleeding if he ate enough of the acid. The lead will cause lead poisoning and that will affect his nervous system.

TAKE THE DOG TO THE VET NOW!

You better call, STAT! Batteries contain acids that can cause serious damage, especially that it is a half a battery, means that the acid is already out of the battery and in the dog. Call someone now.

My dog has eaten whole AA batteries and hasn't gotten sick. BUT, since it is half, I reckon you take it. It is immanent you do because of all the battery oil inside.
