I just adopted a dog two weeks ago, he showed signs of kennel cough, I noticed at first mucos from his nose, which could have been from the bordetella treatment given. He coughs with uper respiratory breathing affected aswell. But he remains active, eats well... He's up , he sleeps , he's up he sleeps... I'm not certain what is normal breathing for the dog, being that I've never owned a dog... I took him to the vet the first week, vet couldn't give me an answer, said it could be pnemonia or a fatal virus of some sort.. He was given clavamox and vitamins.. He also has worms that they gave him shot for and had previously been treated for, during the first week, he did show some temperature that I thought normal for a dog, but as I have read up is not, since given his treatment a week later his cough has gotten a bit better but is still there and his breathing at times is fine and at times not. I'm not so worried about the worms as I am over this cough that might take him to the grave.

It should gradually disappear but keep on monitoring him for any developing changes and report it to your vet. So long as he is eating plenty of puppy food, drinking plenty of water, sleeps in a warm spot, not throwing it up and his nose isn't running mucus, he will get better.

According to my vet, he has never heard of a dog dying from Kennel Cough. It sounds like there is some confusion over what is wrong with your dog though. Mine developed Kennel Cough a week or so after I adopted her, when she was 3 months old. It cleared up within 2 weeks with daily antibiotics.

Kennel cough can definitely be terminal!!! Please take him to the vet immediately. If possible, take him to an emergency vet clinic tonight. This is not something to mess around with. I would also get another vet if he wasn't helpful with diagnosing your dog. Vets are just like people doctors, there are alot who don't know what they're talking about.

Congratulations on being a pet parent. All of my dogs have come from shelters and have had medical problems. But as soon as all of this drama is over and he is healthy, you will be so glad that you adopted him AND he'll be so grateful to you forever. You're a good person for choosing adoption.

Before I understood what pet store's were about, our family bought a min pin, she was a baby. she was doing so well with potty training and everything....
then her nose started running, she was coughing, but everything else was fine with her (like you stated).

Like someone else asked, what kind of dog, his size, age, all come into play with this, if it is kennel cough.

Because of our dogs size, and age, she sadly developed pnemonia in a matter of days even after anitbiotics and steroids...but because she was so small her immune system couldnt fight it even with that help. I now know, not to ever buy from a pet store.
But, like I said depending on your dogs size, ect. He might be fine, but you really do need to get an answer from a vet so they can treat it, rather than still trying to determine what in the heck it is....get a second opinion from a diff. vet asap.
Good luck...

Clavamox, and being in a less stressful home situation (with fresh air!), usually clears things up more quickly than you've described. I really don't like the cough, though. What kind of dog? How old? What kind of shelter?

If your vet isn't sure as to what it is, then how are we supposed to know? If you are still left with questions after your visit to the vet, I suggest calling your vet. He/she may be able to clear things up a little more. You could also schedule a time for you to go into the vet's office and talk with him/her in person.
If it's been over a week since your dog was last seen by the vet, you may want to set up a follow up appointment, so your vet can check the dog's progress.

You know what, I'm glad you adopted them...but it's time for a vet visit ASAP.
