Loss of appetite or losing interest in food choices is a frustrating and worrisome situation for dog owners. Owners will often try to switch foods or offer tempting choices to help entice their pet's appetite. My first suggestion when a dog loses interest in food is to get a blood panel, urinalysis and examination by a veterinarian. The first order of the day is to rule out physical reasons. There are many health issues that can cause loss of appetite and these need to be ruled out first.

When a dog starts turning their nose away from their normal food, there is usually one of two (or both) things going on:
the dog isn't feeling well and might be symptoms of something a little more serious or someone is feeding it something other than its usual food (table scraps for example).

Sometimes when the dog is introduced to people food they will not want to eat their food anymore because they realize that there is better stuff to eat. A good solution would be to mix can dog food wiht the regular food, that way they can get used to it again!

You might check with your vet, but I find that when a dog gets hungry enough, it will eat what is offered. I have never seen a starving dog...but I sure have seen some fat ones. Many Americans overfeed their pets. Your dog probably knows what's best!

They are being overfed, I've never seen a dog on a controlled diet turn their nose up at food-if one of my dogs refuses food I take it straight to the vet!!

They get tired of the same menu. Do you eat the same thing everyday? Pour some broth or gravy over food.

Just remember that as dumb as they seem they are not dumb enough to go on hunger strike for an unhealthy amount of time.
