"Designer breeds", such as peekapoo or labradoodle have become popular. Usually they breed a male from the smaller to breed to a female of the larger breed resulting in larger litters. Your situation is very extreme. Probably not feasible.

They could technically, but physically I think it would be near impossible. The Yorkie would be in serious pain, and the Shepherd would have a hard time getting down low enough to breed her. The puppies would also be abnormal. While the female's size determines the size of the puppies, the genetics of the Shepherd would lend some mass to the puppies that the Yorkie would be unlikely to carry to full term. Not to mention the obvious answer of why would you want to breed them. If you've got the ability to plan something like this, you need to be responsible and breed her to another Yorkie, and breed the Shepherd to another Shepherd.

This sounds like a really bad idea, even if it is possible. Breeding is something that shouldn't be taken lightly, it should be done responsibly by knowledgeable people with a passion for a specific breed. If you are interested in breeding you should speak to local breeders and read up on what it takes to be a reputable breeder before even considering having a litter. the pet population is already out of control, don't contribute!

I don't think it's possible. Though if the two did successfully mate, and the yorkshire terrier was impregnated, the mix of the two dogs, would create puppies that are too large. She would either die, or miscarry. You really want to mate her with a smaller dog, the risk is too big.

First of all there are breeds for a reason, and you are supposed to take two dogs, with the best lines, from the same breed that are pure, and papered and breed them.....

There are millions of animals that die every year in pounds
There are millions of more animals waiting in pounds...

The yorkshire will die because the pups will be bigger than her

Its people like you two that ruin the breeds of the world....What the hell are you thinking?

Thats just wrong....the Shepherd wouldn't fit...and if he did, the pups would be too big for the mother to carry. She would die. You shouldn't even consider mix breeding especially a large with a small.

You should have your dog fixed...and in my opinion if your actually considering breeding these two dogs, you should gather the last of your brain cells, and re-consider owning a dog.

This is my opinion....Sorry

not saying mixes are bad....if they were purposly bred then it's a problem....I have a mix...but she came from a backyard breeder...so don't miss understand my answer guys and gals.

You don't say which is the female, but it would be cruel and abusive to put a large male dog on a yorkie, first of all. Secondly, the puppies could grow large enough to kill her during the whelp.

Secondly, bringing a litter of puppies into this world "just to see what would happen" is juvenile, stupid, and irresponsible. Get computer software that can replicate the scenario and run it.

Smarten up, will you? There are enough puppies in the world without homes, and more coming every day. They are starving, neglected, abused, and being killed in shelters.

What is wrong with you??

So you're saying the Yorkie would be the Mom, and the GSD the Dad? Yeah, sure they would breed, but if you let her go ahead and have the pups, they would kill her trying to give birth to them, as they would be far too large for her.

Do them both a favour, and yourselves, and have them neutered. Neutered dogs make far better pets, in any case, and have far less medical problems. Really, not being nasty, it's just good advice.

Yes, the they can breed. I hope the larger dog is a the female. I can predict major problems in act of coitus and having a 7lb terrier female carrying the litter of large puppies. :)

If the German Shepard is a female you could but you would have to A/I. That is Artifically Insemant.
