I asked a question a few minutes ago about a chihuahua I found in my yard today in the snow. It's obvious he's not purebred and just out of curiousity, can you tell me what he could be mixed with? I know nothing about this breed but his legs are too long for a chihuahua. I'm waiting for his owner to claim him, this is just out of my own curiousity. Here's a pic of his face and then full body standing.

Ruthie - wrong question hun. I haven't taken him to the vet yet, just animal care to check for microchip. You're thinking of the girl who adopted one. =)

I don't think he is a mix at all, not with that head. He just has longer legs, if he is fixed, maybe he was fixed young which would make him leggier.
He SURE as hell isn't mixed with a Whippet or an IG!!!

He is either a min pin chi mix, they are a very popular "designer" dog that goes for $450 a pup from a breeder. Or a poorly bred chi, unfortunately when dogs are over bred they are no longer at their breed standard. They get leggy, long bodied, the head shape can be different.
As for your earlier post:
weight- no you should not be able to see his hips, spine or rib bones, only a slight shadow of the last rib and a slight shadow of his spine. If you are willing to spend an extra $10 on him ask your vet for some nutra-cal. I know you are waiting to her from an owner but you may want to feed him PurinaOne or ProPlan.
joints- he may be older and have arthritis, but I would bet to say his nutrients have suffered, he may be suffering from low calcium, potassium and iron. Once again Nutra-cal.
hair- chis and min pins have very little hair on their legs it tends to be more like peach fuzz
barking- small dogs are very vocal, he is probably just drained, add some yogurt or cottage cheese and some pasta to his food to help
weepy eyes- a definite chi trait, nothing to worry about unless it is thick and yellowish green
I have fostered chis, min pins, chipins, shelties, poms, cockers and am now up to greyhounds. If you have ANY questions email me

Odds are high that one of his parents was a purebred Chihuahua and the other parent was a mutt with no real breeds in him/her.
The thing about mutts is that they don't have to be a mix of breeds -- they could be just dogs without any particular strain of blood in them. Or they could have one purebred dog somewhere in their lineage, but they're so far removed from that one purebred that they don't act anything like the breed. It's not usually accurate to say that your dog is a mix of a few certain breeds.

That is a Chewie/Stilt mix.
Looks like a chewie on stilts. Funniest thing! I don't think it is mixed with anything... just an odd little chewie. At best guess... maybed mixed with an Italian Greyhound??

Well if he's full grown, I would say he is definetly mixed with Min Pin.....
Thats so great of you to have him checked for a microchip, and have him returned...
I love those microchips, it makes me feel more secure about my pup

The vet is right about the terrier, but I don't know it I think there is Chihuahua. I think, he has some Boston Terrier in him, but he also has something that gave him the long nose. The head looks some like a Jack Russell.
