I am not talking about breeds, I am talking about traits. Things like temperament, drives, character, trainability, social factors. Things like that. Serious answers only please

I got a puppy from a lady recently. I don't play around with these scams so I drove all the way out to get it. after we got the puppy we still had a question for her but nobody would answer the door. so my boyfriend walked around the side of the house and I heard a massive roar of dogs. he came walking back around with a funny face, and he said there was at least 100 dogs back there.
she heard the dogs also and came back outside. we asked her about it and she said there were only 45 dogs and they were in a heated, seperated kennels. we left with our pupuy but it seemed too fishy. she & I had a conversation about how awful puppy mills were too prior to us seeing her "kennels." so how many dogs make a puppy mill? was she running one? I have only heard stories about how the dogs were abused in puppy mills, but her dogs seemed well taken care of. they ate Bil-Jac and seemed clean. any answers???

Hi,

When my pug was 1 year old (he is 6 now) I brought him to a vet for a check up and the vet recommended that he have surgery to shorten his palate (to stop his snoring and snorting) and also that he have surgery to reduce his wrinkles (the way he described it, he wanted to cut right along his face, along the wrinkles, and remove, tighten, and stitch the wrinkle).

At the time, my partner and I thought he was just psycho, but I'm wondering if any pug or dog owner has been recommended similar? The facial surgery just sounds bizarre to me . . . but I'm also interested in the palate shortening (is this necessary?) because sometimes now when he is excited or after running alot he seems to be gasping for air or gulping air (and I'm worried trachea/palate collapsed) and it sounds like when choking and trying to get air?

Thanks!

okay, so we have two dogs at our office, mine, which is a doxie min pin mix, and she goes home and to work with me every day. I don't have a problem with her. we have another dog at work, who is a larger mixed breed, (we're thinking lab/rottie/shepard/something else mix) who is the sweetest thing. he was a stray, and he kind of adopted our office as his new home. we've taken him to the vet, shots, he's getting fixed in a couple of months, etc... and we all feed him and take care of him, he stays inside at night ect.

okay, the wierd thing is, he's great when people come in, very loving, and an all around great dog. now, the problem lies when people leave the office, mainly clients, mailman, etc. he starts going nuts when they get in their cars to leave, barking and going on, like he's trying to protect us, but not sure how.... lol

is there any way anyone knows of to teach him to protect from pleople coming up to the building, not the ones that are leaving???? thanks!!

Our family has a yellow lab puppy about 7 months old and up till this point she has been an indoor dog. I have the time for routine care for her (brushing, play and the like) but not to vacuum 3-4 times a day. We have wood floors so hair just flies everywhere. I have been brushing her daily but the shedding hasn't lightened up any. I feel like I can't enjoy my home anymore. The kids can't play on the floor without getting covered with dog hair, can't drag their blankets around without them being covered in dog hair and that's even right after I vacuum every square inch of the house. I hate to put her outside but I am about to lose my mind. What would you suggest? I love her to death, it's just the shedding I can't stand. We have taken her to the vet but they just said it's normal. At a complete loss as to what to do.

but I failed to say that my love had died. He had a wonderful life. I am elderly and live with part of my family and they allowed me to keep my dog as long as he lived but they didn't want me to replace him. I am so lonely without him.

My Dobie in 3 y/o, 100 lbs. We tried to socialize him as much as possible but he just hates people. He goes to doggie day care and is OK around the dogs and people there for some reason (he's been going since he's been a baby) but we can't take him for laks b/c if he sees another person or dog he goes crazy and won't listen. He's also ok if someone comes over. He checks them out at first, but then warms up and loves the visitor.
Very high maintenence dog-just a warning if anyone out there is thinking of getting one. Very smart, very loveable but these dogs need alot of love and sttention, and excersise (which he gets)
Any advice?
