Maybe....or he was hit by a car, or set on fire by small boys or poisoned by irritated neighbor or someone else who loves cats has taken him in, had him neutered and is taking responsibility for his welfare.

Yes. He's now out on the pull. Expect him to be gone for up to three weeks at a time and come back covered in blood with an ear missing (he's been fighting tooth and claw with other male cats). This will continue until you have his balls cut off, after that he'll sit around the house sleeping expecting food every now and then.

Probably. Adult, male, intact cats have the natural desire and instinct to "hunt". This means setting up a territory, prowling for food within it, looking for possible mates who enter it, and defending it. They cannot help doing this; it's a testosterone-driven behavior. So, your cat will leave for several days, hunt and maybe feed and/or breed then come back home to you. If you are concerned about his safety, or about his breeding unwanted kittens, then by all means have him neutered.
When he comes home, give him a hug from me.

Probably. Our male cat was neutered but one testicle wasn't fully descended or something so he still had one left,he left for the neighbors house, they have about 100 cats, all unfixed(really). We never saw him again. He was super cute too.

Probably. I used to have an un-neutered male and he would wander off and not come back for days.

Yep!!

He can smell very well and will seek out a female who will accept him as a mount and he will also keep producing unwanted litters. There are more cats in shelters just waiting their turn to be euthanized. Hundreds and thousands a year! ! ! ! !

Get him neutered.

As Bob Barker would say, "Get your dogs and cats spayed and neutered." Otherwise, they will run away. I hope your cat is well and not in danger. Hopefully, he will show up and you can get him "fixed" so this doesn't happen again.

Most likely; he has scented a female in heat and has gone looking for her. Hope you get him back before he gets hit by a car or attacked by a dog. Please have him neutered and this behaviour will stop and your cat will be safer.

It's possible that someone has taken him in thinking he is a stray!
To be honest I think cats are best kept indoors for their own safety, their are too many nutters out there, that can harm these poor creatures!
