I have had her 5 years, when the kids play she tries to take the toys away from them and will nip at their feet. She is very possessive of anything the kids try to play with. She has never really bitten hard but she does nip. what would you do?

when we are on a journey in the car our dog always seems to know about 1/2mile from any destination (also when returning home) that we are about to arrive.

due to medical history (broken back) my dog had to have a Caesarean and it was agreed to have her spayed at the same time. that was 16 hours ago and as yet she hasn't bonded with the pups and is very lathargic......no problems with the pubs as we are feeding them with no problem, however i am concerned about the dog being so lathargic is this normal at this stage after the op?

Hes a good dog. Does everything outside, doesnt bark, likes to play and sleep all day. I cannot get him to stop biting my wife and I. He thinks our hands are chew toys. I have tried being mean, nice, ignoring, distracting. But he continues to bite. This is a problem, because my inlaws are constantly complaining about it. I can defend him by saying he is a puppy. But that isnt going to work forever. Anyone who trains these types of dogs, or someone who has some experience with these types of dogs. Please write back. I NEED HELP!!!

Hi,
I'd like to learn which dog breeds are good options to consider if:
-the health of the breed is a top priority and
-if you're looking for a rather sporty pet dog that fits in an apartment house.

Thanks for any replies in advance!

I recently adopted a 9 year old husky mix; and just recently she has been constantly licking her anus and vaginal? area. She probably spends about 70% of the time licking herself there. I can't tell if there is anything wrong with her skin in that area because she has so much fur. She also developed a tendency to scratch herself alot and sometimes nibbles at herself. Are these symptoms of fleas? How do I tell if she has fleas?

Thanks in advance.

My family has just got a 9 week old puppy of terrier/toy poodle ancestry. He was the biggest in the first litter of a submissive mother who took ages to wean them and was weak on discipline.

He is very bitey when playing. I've been trying the yelping method for a few days, but should I yelp when his teeth touch my skin or only when it hurts and should I yelp when he bites my clothing?

It sometimes works, but often either excites him, or he just ignores it, especially when he's really excited. He doesnt seem to care that much if I yelp or scold ("NO") him, or if I walk away (which I do if he's in a frenzy). Also, am I teaching him I'm submissive?

One guide said not to play tug-of-war or chase games as it encourages biting, and ball throwing games result in either him running off with the toy or fixating on my hand waving the ball and going for that instead, so what other games are there I can play?

My 12 year old dog is losing weight. The Vet did blood work and the results came back normal. He seems to be hungrier and also eliminating more. Could the commercial food he is eating be passing right through his system and not being absorbed or utilized?

We have decided to put our outside dog down because of cancer. Our daughter is three and although I do not think she is extrememely attached to him, she will of course notice he is gone and my husband and I disagree on what to tell her. He just wants to wait until she asks where he is and we should just answer that he is gone and can't come back. I think we should let her say good bye to him letting her know that he wont be coming home. Any suggestions?

I know all the normal specs. for male vs. female husky weight and height. And I know that larger dogs grow until they are at least 9 months. But my husky grew like a weed until about a month ago and she hasn't really gained anymore weight or gotten any taller. She is only 6 months. Do you think she will just be a smaller husky (she does weigh 33 lbs) or will she grow a little bit more?

My new puppy loves chewing everything. Shoes, furniture, even me and my family. I think this is just a phase, but the sooner she is over it, the better. Any advice?

We just got a poodle from the local pound but she wont eat anything, except 2 of the moist dog treats, we have tried hard food and wet, no she isn't starving but not sure what to do. Also she was so matted and her hair so over grown it was 4 inches long when we took her to the groomer that we wondered how the shelters check for pregnancy. The groomer after shaving her down said how her stomach is shaped she looks pregant. I felt her belly but dont seem to feel any puppies but I am no professional and vets are closed the next 2 days

Having been found as a stray, my family's friend took the dog in (because her daughter's a dog-fanatic), cleaned her up, then offered her to us and we took her. When she arrived, she was exremely afraid of abandonment and constantly stuck around us (especially my mother), but recently she has made some changes. One of the major changes is that she has been eating rather a lot more than she did when she first came so I'm wondering if she could be pregnant... But then... She was bleeding before.. So I can't tell. I'm no expert on dogs so if someone could give me some sound advice, it'd be much appreciated.

We are collecting a Dal pup - ***** - from the breeders next week. She is having her hearing tested on Friday. The breeder says that she can definitely hear, as she responds to commands and other noises. We realise that this does not rule out unilateral deafness. When does the 'hereditary' deafness in the breed appear?

She's a golden retriever.
Her name is Maddie.
She is just about 5 months.
She's afraid of the TV and anything she's never seen before.
I got her from a pet store very recently.
