My fiancee and I can't agree on the kind of dog to get. I want a smaller dog such as a mini yorkie. He thinks they are ugly. Any suggestions. Small dogs preferred.

Hi everyone, I have an 18 week old puppy who is a West Highland White Terrier weighing at 8 lbs. and she is very active and playful. Recently, I had an argument with my boyfriend about how much food to feed her considering the Purina One puppy bag says 1/2 to 1 and he only gives her 1/4 a cup 3 times a day. Is this enough or should I give her 1/2 a cup 3 times a day instead? She always seems to be hungry aftering eating and I once gave her a little extra and she ate all of it and seemed to still be hungry. Answers will be grealy appreciated!

My first question wasn't worded well so I'm starting over.

I have a room in my garage that I would like to turn into a "dog room" for my 3 min pins. I live in Utah where the winters are pretty cold and would like suggestions on the best/safest way to heat the room. No walmart heaters.

The purpose of the "dog room" is so my dogs don't have to be confined to their crate when I run errands. It will also allow them to go outside to potty while I am not home.

My dogs are INSIDE dogs and are never sent outside when it's cold. I have a dog door so the dogs can come and go as they please. The dogs sleep inside with me and will not be left in the room for more than 3 to 4 hours at the very most...they will be able to go outside through another dog door.

I'm not confining my dogs to this room for the rest of their lives...I'm not leaving them out in the cold to freeze to death or anything like that. I just want a place bigger than their crate for them to go when I have to leave home

I have 3 children and a 3 yr old beagle. She is great with the kids
and since we have had her we havent had problems with pests.
We want a companion for her but we want a dog that is protective
of the home (ours right now is very passive) but still friendly with
the family. A dog that doesnt shed much either. Our beagle sheds and adding another would be a crazy mess!
Any ideas would be appreciated.

My mastiff is now 8 months old. About a 6 weeks ago he was diagnosed with Panosteitis by 2 different vets. Both vets advised us that we should keep him very non-active: no running, hard play, long walks, or any unnecessary up and down stairs (we live on the 4th floor). Along with inactivity he is being treated with anti inflammatory medication. My current problem is he now wants to chew EVERYTHING. He has seen a behavioral specialist who says he is bored, any ideas on how to keep him entertained enough to keep him from chewing things? He has more toys and chew items that would make anyone jealous, I'm not sure what else to do.

I've had my Jack Russell for 4 years. Smartest and best dog i've ever owned, by far. Due to her excessive shedding she spends her time in the kitchen, on the kitchen carpet, and obides by this rule VERY VERY well. Recently she's become quite hard headed and insists on walking around the rest of the kitchen and sometimes refusing commands to go outside etc, which she never did before.

She doesn't seem "depressed" , if you will, and is still quite playfull when i spend time with her, so i do not think she is sick or anything. She sometimes wonders around the kitchen if there's a lot of noise outside (fireworks, thunder etc) but recently she just seems to do it for the hell of it. I know JRT like to test their owner's limits but i want her to stop and be obedient like she's been the past 4 years :D.

If anyone can shed some light as to why she's doing this all of a sudden i'd very much appreciate it. Thank you in advance :D

A dog that we adopted from the SPCA recently attacked my son, and left him with deep cuts and a broken arm from a fall during the attack. Needless to say that I was outraged and appalled. What legal action can I take against the SPCA?

My puppy just loves to chew... she chews on everything and has even started chewing on cords. Luckily, none of them have been plugged into an outlet when she gets a hold of them or anything. I don't know what to do with her. I have to keep her in a cage at night because I'm afraid of her chewing on something, and I hate keeping her caged up. =[ Any help would be much appreciated!

I know thats the designer dog food brands are bad for dogs (Purina, Science Diet, Pedigree, Eukanuba, etc.) but which all natural dog food is the best. I read that Life's Abundance is one of the best, but is it better than Wellness or the other oragnic foods. Money is not an option for me, I will only feed my dobe the best. She is only 3 mo old, and we are feedin her Eukanuba now(we didnt know how bad it was when we bought it) Only Organic foods please, no science diet, or anything like that.

Thanks

I'm getting a bit frustrated. Whenever he's behaving wildly I'll try to get him and bring him where I am but he just takes off running. If I tell him no, he'll rush and do it the second I turn my head and then take off running. Do anyone beleive in crate training? My breeder has advised that I give him a light tap on the bottom if he isn't responding to my "No" however, I've tried this once or twice and he squeaks. Now sometimes if he's playing and then comes to me, I'll put up my hand to pet him and he ducks as if I'm going to tap him (which is something I do very gentle but he definitely gets the point). This really hurts me when I see him ducking. Do you also beleive in tapping them on the bottom? If not, can you offer me an alternatives that actually works as he's becoming a little tyrant which makes me feel like a horrible owner as I can't train my dog.

He's not eligible for training classes until he's 6 mths. What do I do until then? I love him very very much. I'm just tired!
