I know this question has already been addressed several times, but my family has owned this dog for almost a year. She's a west highland terrier. Although she is let outside several times a day, if she does actually "go" out there, it is only a mere coincidence where she just happens to have to go while being outside. Everytime I see her "go" in the house, I rub her nose in it and put her outside, but I'm in college, so I'm not always around, and I'm worried that my family just isn't capable of training her. This dog will be a year old around April/May.

Please tell me any stories about them. Especially if they have protected you. I love the Akita and really like to hear stories about them. Anything - Funny or not..........Thank you!

**Last time I asked a question about the American Akita a rude person tried to tell me there is no such thing, only Japanese Akita. There are actually three types of Akita: The Japanese Akita - The American Akita and the Austrailian Akita. They all come from the Japanese Akita but they are bred to have different size qualities. **

I did a little research (very little) on this type dog. I was surprised it is really just a mutt. I assumed it was just some obscure breed not yet recognized by the AKC. As per the info I found, it is a mix of any breed of sight hound and any breed of herding dog or several of each. It was started as a circus dog for gypsies? I know you cant believe everything you find on the internet. Can someone give me a better discription of this dog? I see comments and questions concerning it more each week. Thanks!!

My family has 3 dogs, a lab, a dauchand and I have a 2 year old female chihuahua. My chihuahua isn't that great when it comes to eating her food. She'll take a bite or two and then walk away from it. My problem is the other two dogs. As soon as the chihuahua walks away they will eat her food. The only time that she will eat is when I either give her straight people food or mix people food in with hers. I've heard from some people though that wet/people food is bad for chihuahuas. Is this true? And if so, what should I do to get her to eat? Please help, thanks!!

I got a puppy on december 23rd, e had his first vet appointmen on dec 28th, at which we found out he had roundworms and tapeworms, he was treated for them and he is now free of those 2 kinds of worms. at his secon vets appointment on jan 17th we found out he had hookworms - which previously he did not have. I was talking to the vets and i explained that the person that lived here before me had some dogs he kept outside, and hey said thats why my dog has caught the worms. I have to have him treated for the hookworms and he has been started on the heartguard preventative meds. I am also due to start him on frontline plus this week too. What I am wondering is if anyone knows if there is anything I can treat my yard with to prevent re-infection??? Also, once hes worm free and i keep him on the peventative meds - he shouldn't get re-infected right? I know this is longbut my puppy means alot to me and i need help! :)

I have a 7 year old full blooded chihuahua that tips the scales at close to 20 pounds. He has been neutered but is not a fat dog, he's just big. Does anyone else have or know of a chihuahua this size? I have heard of a "large breed chihuahua" but can't find any reference to this. Also, what is the life expectancy of this breed?

I'm tired of people being afraid of my dog and of constantly having to lock him away when these scared people are around. I don't get to tell other people to lock their kids aways, how do I know their child isn't vicious??? Should I take their word for it? Just like these people who are afraid of my dog should take my word that he isn't vicious? Have had home improvement workers here for days now who expect me to keep my dog locked up in my bedroom all day long, it's not fair to my dog nor to me who has to deal with a dog that cries, whines and bangs on the door because of some fraidy cats.....opinions please, and keep the flaming to a minimum please and thanks.

I've visited online stores for a wheelchair for my dog but they are really expensive. I was wondering if there is anyone out there that would be willing to sell one to me. He's a cocker spaniel and is paralyed from his back legs. I would be willing to pay up to $150. If anyone could help it would be great!

I have a three month old Yorkshire Terrier and we always kennel her up when we leave for work. Well, we started off lining it with a towel and she would pee on towels outside of the kennel as well thinking it was ohk. So we decided to get some puppy training mats which would work out perfectly BUT, she bunches them up in the corner of her kennel and just pees on the floor of the kennel. Which that isn't a problem but, she ends up laying in it and I have to bathe her every afternoon when I get off from work. There has to be an easier way to prevent her from being that disgusting when I get off from work and don't feel like bathing a dog every night...I don't have kids yet I shouldn't have do that, hehe.

Would you say it is unfair to keep a small / medium dog in a flat? they are walked every morning for half an hour then again approx four hours later at lunchtime, and again in the evening when home from work and when needbe thereafter. It will have unlimited exercise at the weekends It is unfair to leave them 9-5 if you cannot get home at lunchtime?

I DO NOT own a dog, i am considering buying one but not sure if my circumstances are suitable at the moment. I have owned dogs in the past but i lived at home on a farm so the situation was a bit different.

I rescued him from the local animal shelter. He had been there for quiet some time. Will neutering help this marking territory even though he is grown? I dont want to have to get rid of him but this is a very big problem.

my little 6mo. old puppy has strange urinateing habbits. we will take her out approx. about an hour from when we last took her out(or when we think she needs to go). and sometimes she wont go,but when she gets back in the house, sometimes she goes after a just a little while of being brought back inside. my little dog seemed to be potty trained. but after she got sick last month, its almost like she forgot about going outside, could this be a urinary tract infection, or just bad 'potty training' on our part?

She is about 16 years old. She has broken her back twice, and while she still walks I know it is painful for her. She still wags her tail when I get home, comes to greet me and likes to go in and outside. She barks randomly, and the vet said she might have some dimentia. Some days she won't eat, and I think that that is it. Then she'll scarf down all kinds of food. One day she'll pee on herself, and I think that is it, then she won't pee on herself for a couple days. I don't know what to do. I love her, and I just don't know what to do. I don't want to put her down because I am being selfish and she is hard to care for, but I don't want to be selfish and keep her going either. Help~!~
