I did a little research (very little) on this type dog. I was surprised it is really just a mutt. I assumed it was just some obscure breed not yet recognized by the AKC. As per the info I found, it is a mix of any breed of sight hound and any breed of herding dog or several of each. It was started as a circus dog for gypsies? I know you cant believe everything you find on the internet. Can someone give me a better discription of this dog? I see comments and questions concerning it more each week. Thanks!!

It is a SH cross bred for hunting. They cross it with a herding or terrier breed so that they are more trainable. I am sure some are, but many would have the SH temperment as well. They are a cross and temperment and physical traits are pretty unpredictable.

They are mostly in Britain.

Kinda silly, IMO. If you want to hunt Hare, get a SH. Not a cross that may/may not be more trainable, and may/may not have prey drive and be fast enough to hunt hare.

You could end up with a dog that is not any more trainable, and won't HUNT either!

Lurchers were actually bred by poachers, as it was illegal for peasants to own Greyhounds in Britain. They bred lurchers, a cross between a greyhound and usually a terrier, as the next best thing. They are typically owned by gypsies there.
