He was in a shelter around cats and did fine, now all he wants to do is chase them around here and he's scaring them half to death! How do I train him to be nice?
And is this type of breed chasers of other small animals, and missed that somewhere in my research, lol

My dog, Copper, is a 3 year old Lab/Jack Russell mix. She lives alone with me and my husband. She is very affectionate, smart, and behaves well when she is just with adults, the problem is with children. Not all children, just our nephews, ages 1 and 2. Most of the time she's great with them, lets them look at her and pet her, but occassionally she growls at them. She's never bitten anyone and I hope to keep it that way. We are all very cautious when the kids are around the dog and we instruct them on how to treat animals so I hope in a couple more years this won't be a problem any longer. I am really hoping to find a solution that doesn't involve completely seperating the kids and Copper...any thoughts or ideas? I do plan to discuss it with our vet ASAP.

Nueter our dog at 4 months. Our dog still does not hike his leg when he goes to the bathroom. Is it because we nuetered him too early. Have been told by someone that was why. Thanks.

I was curious what everyone's opinion was on the amount of force which they consider acceptable to punish a dog. No physical force? Sharp "bites" like Cesar Millan? Dropping them on the floor on their backs? Anything more?

Also, do you believe in pinch collars, e-collars or choke chains?
(This one I am curious about cause my dog is on a pinch collar and so many people give us dirty looks, even though it is necessary because if she is on anything else she either turns herself blue pulling, will run at other dogs, or will jump all over people).

My German Shepard is limping and licking his wrist. I'm not sure if it's a sprain or something more serious. He was fine this morning and out of nowhere just started limping when he got of the couch today. If there was something wrong, does anyone know how much an X-ray would costs?

I've trained my dog to do a few service dog " jobs" around the house. He picks up things I drop, gets things from the fridge, lets me know when the baby is crying, gets the mail, and brings my my shoes, slippers, or the remote whatever I ask him for. The thing is times got hard and I had to move back with my dad. He cant stand it when Raven unzips Austins ( my son's) coat or picks up a toy he drops, he doesn't want Raven ( that dog) to do anything that has to do with Austin. But Raven is like right there when he drops something like its second nature because thats part of his job.Now all of a sudden my dad wants him to stop everything.Austin loves him, Austin is 9 months and they are ike and mike together all the time. I say its fine Raven does it my dad does not..what do you think??

OK I bought a puppy from whom I thought was a good breeder. We bought two other dogs from her in the last three years which are perfect which is why we went back. Well this one is about 3 months old and has been diagnosed with a luxating patella. The breeder offered to buy the dog back but its too late, I can't give her back. Also in her contract it states that if within 6 months of purchase a congential or heredity disease is found she will pay all vet bills up to the cost of the dog. I am hearing that this surgery can be pretty pricey. Would you go after the breeder for the vet bills for it? Anyone ever have this type of experience?

The other day we adopted an 8 week old "sheep/lab" mix puppy from an animal shelter. Beautiful dog, beautiful, shiny coat. Excellent personality...she was surrendered by a previous owner two days before we got her. Anyway, my question is...how big will this dog get, in general? I mean, either way, we are keeping the animal...so size is not a problem at all. I was just wondering how big it might get. They just had "sheep/lab" mix on the tag for it. I'm sure, like many dogs...'sheepdogs' probably have several different breed types (some with longer fur, shorter fur, shorter legs, etc.) We asked the people there how big it might get, and nobody really knew (they'd never seen that breed before, apparently). We just got an answer of 'big'. I've searched online and can't seem to find any good pictures to see 'sheep/lab' mix dogs, to get a general idea. Maybe somebody out there has one of them? Anyway, thanks for whatever info you are able to give. :-)

I love these breeds. Granted no dog is actually easy to own, I'm asking which of these dogs is the least difficult. I keep reading about them but certain books have contradicting information. Any experiences raising any of these breeds?

Old English Sheepdog
Airedale, Lakeland or Fox Terrier
Scottish Terrier

I love Old English Sheepdogs- they're so adorable and my favorite breed. But I heard they are very suceptible to illnesses compared to other dogs. This is what my dad told me but he's basing that one sheepdog his friend owned who had kidney problems all the time no matter how much treatment and surgeries he got.

I have two Schnauzers and female is 3 month older than male dog. I often see that she kissing him when he sleeping or anytime when she get chances.

And I mean she licking his inside of his mouth with her tongue.

Have you seen? Does that mean she loves him? Or does he have some kind of smell she likes inside of his mouth? Very interesting.

We are very sorry for this so no rude comments please. Anyway the game warden came and said we would have to go to court. How much is the fine for this usually? By the way, we are planning on buying them a new dog even though this will not replace the old one.

We've tried anti itch creams ( she licks them off);she has brewers yeast and linatone added to her diet. She has large patches around her tail that go comepletely bald in the spring...she's a mix of border collie and australian shepherd. We've tried some many different things I am clueless as to how to proceed. And YES she's been to the vet so often for this problem I told them to install a revolving door in their office with all the money I've paid them.We are looking for any alternative forms of relief besides dipping her in mud 24/7. I say this because it seems to relieve some of her symptoms when she rolls in mud.
