My dad's best friend used to breed them. His oldest lived to be almost 14. She was a small female (runt actually) that he never bred. He had her spayed as a pup and kept her as a pampered house pet.

I had 2 and the male died at 9 years old and the female died at 11..... most large breeds pass away around those ages, not to say they don't live longer which is obviously possible.... small breeds can live on average 15 years.

My rotty died at 12. hardest thing I ever did was to put her down. I could take that dog anywhere and she would be welcome. Just thinking about it now makes me tear up. She had a great life running loose in an orchard and greeting people with a wag sit and kiss. I have a doberman now. Not the same but I love her. So sensitive towards me. She came right over to me mid post and was concerned. G-d help the person that comes between me and my dog.

We had a sweet female rottweiler, and she just dropped over dead one day, literally, we believe it was a heart attach. She was around 9 (a guess), we aren't exactly sure because she was a pound dog and was fairly small. We thought she was younger than she really was. The animal control person who came to pick her up said that is fairly common with rottweilers. I hope that helps you.

Rotties live 9-10 years on average. Large breed dogs typically have shorter lifespans.
Rottweilers are more susceptable to cancer, and this may account for the short lifespan.
Makes me sad to think I will have my beloved boy for such a short time....He's already 3, and it seems like just yesterday he was a tiny ball of fur.

I haven't had one, I got a doberman instead but my neighbor growing up had a Rott and it died at 13 years old.
