My German Shepard is limping and licking his wrist. I'm not sure if it's a sprain or something more serious. He was fine this morning and out of nowhere just started limping when he got of the couch today. If there was something wrong, does anyone know how much an X-ray would costs?

I would take him to the vet. Most x-rays cost around $75, but I have heard of vets only charging $40.

Some things that can cause limping include: trauma (like a sprain or fracture), lyme disease, other tick borne diseases. As far as how much an xray costs, it depends on where in the country you live and the individual practice. Also if your dog doesn't behave for the xray it may need to be sedated, plus don't forget the office visit. I used to work at a vet practic in CT (office visit: 38, 1'st x-ray: 65, second x-ray 40, then variable cost for sedation depending on how much and what type)

You say you are feeding her three times a day, but is she eating all the food? If she is, but yet she is losing weight, that is often a sign of worms. You say you dewormed her; I'm betting they are back or you didn't fully deworm her. Does your area really only have one vet? This sounds far too serious to wait two more weeks. If it was my dog, and my normal vet couldn't see him for two weeks, with these symptoms, I'd see another vet for this one visit. All you have to do is have the normal vet fax the dog's records to the new vet. You might not feel comfortable going to a new vet, but this isn't about you. It's about her. What would happen if you took her in on the 27th, and by that point she was too far gone, and the vet says they could have saved her if you had sought help sooner? I would never be able to live with that, knowing that my dog died because I waited 16 days. Get her to a vet, next week.

if he's still limping tomorrow you will need to visit the vet. no telling what happened. they're like kids. an x-ray usually costs on average of $50-$150 depending on if your dog will need to be sedated for the x-ray and what your vet charges.

You can give him a motrin (My 70 lb GSD can have ONE 200mg tablet of motrin twice a day. It's based on weight. Google the dose. NO TYLENOL!!!) I'd say try to rest the leg for a day and see what happens. Probably a sprain or strain. I had a chest xray done for a guinea pig once and it was $50.

Don't let him do any jumping at all (on/off bed etc) - and take him to the vet as soon as you can. He may have pulled a muscle, or it may be something more serious. A big dog like that puts a lot of weight and stress on his joints - don't chance it, take him in for an expert opinion.

Is it swollen? If not, and he walks on it, it probably is like you stepping the wrong way with your ankle. Watch him closely and if it swells or he stops walking on it take him to the vet. It may clear up in a day or so on it's own.
