Nueter our dog at 4 months. Our dog still does not hike his leg when he goes to the bathroom. Is it because we nuetered him too early. Have been told by someone that was why. Thanks.

I had a chi neutered at 4 1/2 mo. Usually I will wait until 6 mo but this little guy was fast becoming a mature dog for his age. I don't think you want your dog to hike his leg, do you? When he starts doing that he will mark everything in sight. Be glad he doesn't hike.

No some dogs do both when Nuetered, some do one or the other. My boyfriend's Boxer is neutered and I've been around him for the past 2 years and the time I"ve been around I notice he doesn't lift his leg a lot.

The only time he lifts his leg is when he's peeing on a bush or somewhere were he can't stand and pee.

Dogs usually lift their leg up when marking territory. Since he's netutered he probably doesn't feel the need to mark his territory (i'm not sure of this, just a guess).

Good Luck.

Neutering your dog has absolutely NOTHING to do with the leg lifting!!! Some male dogs never lift their legs (and many people that own them are very grateful for that!!) Sometimes it has to do with the breed and sometimes it can just be an age thing. My 140 lbs. shepherd never lifted his leg until he was 5 years old AND the only reason I believe he finally did it was my brother-in-laws- dog came over and lifted his leg on my truck.... I think he thought that was unacceptable and went behind him and did the same!!! In the future he would occasionally lift, but he generally squatted; so what... Most would rather have a squatter then a lifter, it is less annoying!

Generally speaking, if the dog was nuetered before he started lifting his leg, he may not lift his leg now. He could just still be too young, so I wouldn't worry about it just yet.

The good news is if he doesn't ever lift his leg, your plants and shrubs might look much healthier for years to come! :)

There was nothing wrong with neutering at 4 months. As long as the testes have decended, no reason not to chop them off. Ha ha.

my dog was not neutered until he was 9mo and his testes were quite the site. He did not lift his leg before I neutered him and still doesnt. Some dogs just dont. Intact or not. Intact dogs lift to mark territory. But not all intact dogs hike. it's really dependent on the dog. If he doesnt hike, dont worry about it. If he does, then he does.

I thought neutering doesnt happen till 5 months at least, but this isnt the reason for no hiking up the leg, lol.
I know many adult male dogs that still squat reguardless:)

Intact dogs lift their leg to urine mark their territory. This is an instinct that comes with sexual maturity. Because your puppy was neutered at four months, it was before he learned the leg-lifting technique. That's why he doesn't do it now, and he probably never will.

But don't worry! There's nothing wrong with this. I actually prefer a dog that doesn't lift its leg, because these dogs tend to mark everything in sight. Good for you for getting him neutered!

No male puppies don't hike their legs because they get neutered. It is intinct. My male puppie didn't hike his leg until he was 5 1/2 months old. So take it easy, besides in the pet world it doesnt' matter it wont make your boy dog any less of a man if he squatted...or hiked his leg.so just enjoy your little boy doggie

What is it with men projecting their machismo crap on animals? Male dogs don't think anything of their manhood. Mating is strictly pure instinct, but not the end-all, be-all for the male dog. In fact, some intact males express little interest in mating with a female in heat. Sammy could care less if he has testicles or not. They don't think in the same terms we do of "manhood" or "womanhood". Those are human, social constructs that don't apply to the animal kingdom. Get Sammy neutered. It will make him happier and healthier in the long-run.

My male Rotty was neutered at 6 months, and he only lifts his leg when hes peeing on a bush or post. Be glad your boy isnt lifting his leg!
The reason males lift their leg is to get the scent up high (nose level, if you will).

Glad I have a squatter!!!
