I've had my Jack Russell for 4 years. Smartest and best dog i've ever owned, by far. Due to her excessive shedding she spends her time in the kitchen, on the kitchen carpet, and obides by this rule VERY VERY well. Recently she's become quite hard headed and insists on walking around the rest of the kitchen and sometimes refusing commands to go outside etc, which she never did before.

She doesn't seem "depressed" , if you will, and is still quite playfull when i spend time with her, so i do not think she is sick or anything. She sometimes wonders around the kitchen if there's a lot of noise outside (fireworks, thunder etc) but recently she just seems to do it for the hell of it. I know JRT like to test their owner's limits but i want her to stop and be obedient like she's been the past 4 years :D.

If anyone can shed some light as to why she's doing this all of a sudden i'd very much appreciate it. Thank you in advance :D

Lets try this again. My dog is an outside dog. She spends most of her days outside, chasing birds and barking at cats while everyone's at work. When we are home she stays inside, where she sleeps as well. There has been no change in her activities, or routines, except for her diet which my vet is currently workin on. When we try different brands she seems to shed even more and her skin sometimes turns pink or red-ish..... Anyways .....
She seems to be disobeying the carpet rule in the last little while, and i'd like some more opinions as to what can cause this and i don't need flaming on how to house my dog.
She has a very free and fun life, but she ain't jumpin on my couch or drinkin out of my toilet!

There is a good chance that your dog is stressed and needing a different type of food. She needs more exercise now that she is getting older and possibly a friend to spend time with. I would talk to a vet about putting her on a diet for older dogs and spend more time playing with her. I know it sounds silly but there are actually dog therapists, no I'm not talking about your dog going in and setting on the couch but these therapists actually spend time with your dog playing and stuff and find out what makes them happier or in this case maybe sad. think about a little professional help, if not a therapists then at the very least a vet.

Sorry but how can you keep a Jack Russell terrier in one part of one room? What does she do for exercise. This is a high-energy dog and unless she has an outlet for her need/desire for physical exercise, she will undoubtedly act out even more merely for the attention. Once you have burned up the excess energy, she may be content to respect her confined area. A 45 minute walk daily is the minimum she needs, preferably with some ball-chasing, etc. Also please check with your vet on a diet change to control the shedding issue so she can perhaps have more freedom in the house. Be sure her basic needs are being met before you decide she is just being a "bad dog".

You force your dog to spend it's waking day on a mat in the kitchen? And now she disobeys by straying? She can't respect you. Probably confused about her loyalty to you. Why don't you chain her to a chair or lock her in a bathroom?

I think she figured it out. She is not allowed to live among her family. She lives like an outcast which is totally against a dog's natural social makeup. They are not toys that go on the shelf, or cars you park in the garage.

Dogs shed. If you can't vacuum after her, you shouldn't have a dog.

It is inhumane to isolate the dog. Dogs left outside or in the garage fall into this category.

Explore a new diet for her excessive shedding. Commercial dog foods with fish oil might help. Or you could consider removing her from commercial kibble to healthier foods which you can google for more information.

My guess is that she's bored and wants to be included with the rest of her family. I have dogs and everywhere I go i carry part of them with me...on my clothes. Dogs shed and I personally wouldn't want anyone in my home who had a serious problem with a member of my family's hair especially when it's certainly not the dog's fault. Let her be a dog and go where you go...you'll probably both be a lot happier in the long run.

don't get a marvel collar, they are purely cruel. A muzzle is okay if used properly and the canines is experienced to affiliate it as being a intense-high quality element. Im sorry to take heed to approximately your cat. Jack Russells % to chase, as that's what they have been bred to do. Now he has had of project to pratice this behaviour he will relish it much greater. it may be unfair to place him down for a organic instinctive behaviour. he's not liable to chew people if he has no aggression to human beings on the 2d. i could provide him assorted chase video games employing toys. Does he chase a ball interior the backyard/out on walks? Jack Russells choose assorted psychological stimulation. i could save him on a lead whilst ever you're around cats or different small furies, or while you're in a community you anticipate them to be. in case you stroll him in a community off lead the place there are possibly to be cats i could introduce a muzzle. i could definitely in no way have faith him around cats or small furies returned and that's something you're actually not liable to coach out of him.

i'm sorry but were you not aware of the fact that dogs shed before you commited to one? premium food, regular brushings and grooming can greatly reduce the amount of shedding. plus use your vaccuum. how awful to be confined to one part of the house just because she's a dog. i don't blame her for being obstinate.
