I am just curious to know what other people talk about with their dogs, or if you even talk to them like that at all...

Yes I talk to my dog on a regular basis. I do talk to her as if she were another person. I explain thing's to her like if we are going to my mom's place I tell her that were going to grandma's house and if she has to go to the vet which she HATES or if I'm going somewhere that she can't go I tell her where I'm going. I think so gets it for the most part she seems to understand things better and is therefore better behaved she is more accepting of the boundaries that she is expected to live with. We also work on a reward system too.

All the time. Sometimes we talk to them as we would an adult, other times we talk to them as if they were children, sometimes we use "baby talk". They even answer us in their own way, like when we ask if they are hungry, they look at their food bowls & then look at us with a look of anticipation. Dogs are great to talk to because they don't judge you, they just listen & accept you & love you unconditionally.
My wife & I have three male Bernese Mountain Dogs.

Whoever is on my mind, license to think out loud, as the dog just hears your tone and is usually comforted by the sound of your voice. I also comment on what he has to say, like when he needs something. I run down the doggy need list out loud to him and he responds to the correct answer(s) I have figured.
Have yourself many a good chat with your dog, you both have everything to gain

We talk to our dogs all day long every day as if they were people. They understand far more than we give them credit for.And talking to them keeps their attention focused on you. They eat up the attention while they wait to see what you'll do next that'll be fun for them.
If you ignore them too long they get bored and wander away to look for some mischief to get into.

Always speak to your dog in a low loving tone and repeat their names and how much you like them...Over and over again. Dog's always know when you are happy or sad. Amazing

I greet them when I come home and tell them how happy I am to see them and that I missed them too. I talk to them a lot like they are little kids. I also have a cat and am reprimanding him for his misbehavior. He is slightly jealous when I'm talking to my two dogs. I love them all and talk to all of them.

Yes of course i talk to my dog, i have a mini dachsund, sometimes its just encouraging words like, "you are so cute" or "I love you so much!", or at others times I really talk to him, venting about work or telling him my worries but you see what you're really doing is relieving stress. It may seem crazy but it soothes me because when you're talking to your pet you are also healing yourself a little.
