As previously mentioned eucalyptus is a good one and citronella is another as dogs don't generally like citrus smells. Beware of mothballs- they are poisonous. Dogs have good noses and love stinky things but as someone else has mentioned they seem quite adverse to perfumes with strong floral smells.

well that depends on what you are trying to keep the dog out of. If it's something they get into like trash or diggin try sprinkling some pepper to the area. Start with black pepper and if that doesn't work you can try a hotter pepper. We use cayenne to keep our pit bull from digging.

You can purchase Apple Bitters at any Pet Store. I have also found my dogs don't like vinegar or cayenne pepper and HATE mothballs...but so do I! Good luck in finding what works best for you and your dog!

Ammonia, used to carry an ammonia bottle when I rode my bike on a paper route ( yeah, old days ), could handle 3 -4 dogs at one time. After second time they just stood and watched me ride by.

The trainer from the classes I took my puppy to gave me advice to use tobasco sauce on things my puppy shouldn't be chewing on. Tabasco can be messy not to mention the red color so it depends on what your trying deter your dog from. Water and vinegar in a spray bottle was also suggested and that seems to work. I would just spray my puppy near the snot when she was chewing something she wasn't suppose to.

Eucalyptus oil works a treat. avoid any cleaners that contain ammonia etc as dogs are attracted to that scent.
