I own a 2 year old male Bullmastiff. I was looking into breeding him and I couldn't believe how much these puppies were going for. I bought my dog 6 months ago from a woman who could not care for him anymore and paid a quarter of what the newspapers are asking! I love this breed of dog but I was curious as to why they are so expensive to buy. Any ideas?

She is doing well with peeing outside and hasn't had an accident in the house for 3 days. We got her from the Humane Society. However, at night, even after she has peed, she stills whins for about 45 minutes or so. Then around 3 or 4am she wakes us up and has to go outside again. When she comes back, she doesn't want to reenter her crate and whins forever!

Will this keep up and what should we do to get her to stop whinning at night? We run her at lunch in the backyard and after we come home from work. So she gets decent exercise.

Anyone have an Australian Shepherd that can help?

I have a 3yr old cocker spaniel, she is fully housetrained and a very good dog.
Although we have recently noticed that she is pulling her bed out of the way and urinating underneath it, then putting her bed back. She doesnt need to wee, as she does it straight after coming in from the garden where she has just had one. She doesnt show any signs of dominance although she only does it in one area of the house, she is spayed. Maybe it could be her hormones?????????/

who knows, some one please help.

I was wondering at what age was it ok to start training our 5 week old puppy. I mean now is too soon but when is it ok to start training like leash walking, sitting, commands? We have already started the potty training and Cocoa's doing well. Also I was wondering how do you train your dog to be protective of me and my husband or does that come naturally? I want her to be protective but not to bite EVERYONE that comes over. I hope everyone can help me with ANYTHING you can tell me to start training her the right way. ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING IS HELPFUL. Also how much are you suppose to feed a 5 week old puppy how much and how many times a day. Thank You

I adopted a 1 year old Boxer yesterday, and he only weighs 35llbs. He was found extremely underweight, and adopted by a lady that took him to the vet had everything checked out and fixed every problem he had. I'm just looking for advice on how to help him get to a normal healthy weight. He's been on a normal diet for the past month, getting him on a stable diet. So, how do I safely bump that up to put on the weight?

My dog has scratched up the molding around the door. How can I prevent this? Once it is repaired, is there something I can put on it to keep her from scratching it up again?

Okay, so I recently got my first dog a week ago. He is a six month old puggle and at first it took him a while to get used to his new surrounding. He understands the boundaries of the house and rules when I walk him. And he has grown much attached to me. Follows me everywhere. He is doing great. He loves to play with my neighbors Shitzu. One problem. He doesn’t play with his toys. I bought him a couple squeaky toys and rope toys. He is very playful outside and very calm inside but just will not even touch his toys. I do try very hard to play with him with the toys, but he seems very uninterested. Is because he just needs more time to adapt to his new home?

I've been doing a lot of research on Iggys (and I still have a lot more to do!).

I've read that it is okay to pair male/female and even 2 males, but as I prefer female animals, I was hoping to adopt 2 females (together or individually).

I assume that as long as I (their female "human") would establish dominance/ alpha status over BOTH female Iggys, that there shouldn't be much of a problem, as I've read consistently that Iggys are submissive.

What do you think and what exactly is your experience level with Iggys? What is the best way to pair two females, should I take on the challenge (if there is one)?

Thanks.

Thanks for all your answers - Well, the proper ones anyway. Jeez, does anyone actually READ these questions or OBSERVATIONS before jumping in? I mean, it was not a serious point, nor a dig at labs, nor an insult to some people...

It was purely an Observation, a silly thought, a brief moment of curiosity.

Thank you tho, for those that expalined the yellow/black ratio compared to choccys, and thanks to those who have experienced the same crazy-canine.

But for those that said "how dare you bad mouth my dog", and "did you not insist on both sets of papers", I must wonder; who is more in need of the white canvas jacket that ties at the back...the dog, or the ones who take life TOO damn serious.

Regards to all...

we just got our new wee pup on dec 23 & he has been great , howls a wee bit at night but that apart he has been ace . because of xmas etc we never got the chance to take him to our vet until now .at the vets yesterday he advised that his diet that the breeder advised us on was poor & no good for him , he advised us on changing his food to hills large breed puppy food , also increase his meals from 3 to 4 per day . we did this wright away & our pup ate the food no bother . he had 3 bowls yesterday with wormer mixed in & 1 at approx 8am today but since then has not eaten . he has however been to the toilet twice today , his 1st time his stools appear to be norm the 2nd time they started norm the first couple then it just ran out of him , there was quite a lot of it . since then he has just lay on his wee mat . he is an 8 wk old rottie . is he just having an off day with all the change that has been going on .

I am puppy sitting for my friend while she went to her visit her relatives for the holidays so i offered to puppy sit. there are 5 shih tzu pups and the mom. the pups are eating soft food and it seems to be getting stuck in their fur and when they poop it is kinda runny so i would like to bath them to clean them up some and yes i do have puppy shampoo and i have bathed a dog before.
i wont have them in the water for too long and yes they will be blow dried when they come out so they dont catch a cold.

thank you in advance for the advice and the help.

The day before Christmas Eve, my hubby took 1 yr old dog to groomer for nail clippings. Dog came home and was bleeding on foot. Called my vet, she said to dip in flour. Did that, dog ok. Turned out not to be the nails, but his pad was cut. Then later that day, his eye (on the same side as the cut pad) was bloodshot. Really bloodshot. Also, this morning, I noticed that that particular pupil is dilated. What's wrong with my puppy? He has had all of his shots, and isn't around other dogs. We do tie him up occasionally outside while we are home for him to get fresh air, but otherwise, he is an inside dog.

I have a 9 week-old ShiTzu and I would like to spay her. I called one vet and they told me they wouldn't fix her until she is 6 months old. Then I called a place indicated by the Humane Society and they said I could take her now or at any moment. What do you guys think would be better for her? Is there ok spay a 9 week-old dog?
