Each police dog is trained to search for just one thing.

The dogs specialize in either drugs, search and rescue, cadaver, or bomb. Because each area is so diverse, they can not train one dog to do everything.

sometimes they are trained for one thing only and sometimes they are cross-trained depending on how big of a department it is and how many K9s they have. If it is a smaller department and can afford one or two dogs then they will probably be trained to do more than one task, if it is a really large department such as the Dallas Police Department in tx or the Los Angeles Police Department in ca. they will have multiple dogs with some being trained for one thing and some for only one thing (it also depends on how intelligent the dog is). Most departments have dogs that are trained in criminal apprehension.

In most case, Dual purpose dog is Patrol and Narcotic detection. In this case Dog can find drugs, search building, search evidents, and tracking .as well as apprehend criminal.
Explosive detection dog will just search bombs. Cadaver dog trained for find bodies only. Search and rescue ,in most case, will be done by S & R teams outside of police department. There are dogs that train for patrol, and dogs for narcotic only as well.
As you know one narcotic dog is trained to find many kind of drugs. And one bomb dog is trained to find many kind of explosive
Police dog training is very different than Schutzhund or ring sports. PDs buy green dog and train them for what they need.

Police K-9 dogs are trained to attack on command a fleeing suspect. But there are also cadaver dogs that search for drugs in cars or other confined places. And yes, there are also bomb-sniffing dogs that can smell a gun powder and ammunition and help swat teams uncover it before it explodes.

They are amazing working dogs and I happen to believe they all deserve to be treated like heros, and that they should be able to wear bullet-proof vests at all times!!

Police dogs are trained for several things. There are bomb detection dogs, drug detection dogs, cadavar dogs, and protection dogs. You will hear people saying that the dog is dual purpose, meaning he is trained for protection and one other like drug detection. There is a kennel here in Indiana that sells to PD's across the country. The majority of his dogs when imported are titled either in Schutzhund or even French Ring. They do work with a titled dog to get them to bite someone without a bite sleeve on.

Cadavar dogs are trained to search for dead bodies. Protection dogs bite a fleeing person!

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/IpVEu

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

No, it relatively is a fantasy. As ludicrous because it relatively is, a long-lasting one. canines are knowledgeable to seek for drugs with the aid of associating the scent of the medicine with a well-known toy. it relatively is a interest. The canines locate the fragrance and their reward is a interest with their well-known toy and handler. some use Kongs, others use tug toys, despite the canines relatively likes. I even have considered foodstuff detection canines for the airport knowledgeable with treats. A canines with extreme tension will artwork very confusing to locate some thing for the reward of their toy. no might desire to get him addicted to drugs. think of what an 80 5 lb GSD could be like on cocaine. it would fry their brains and kill them, no longer very useful for detection.
